Question #3 Analysis

16
Question #4

True/False: The only organelles that contain DNA are the nucleus, the
mitochondria and the chloroplasts.

Question #4 Analysis

18
Question #5

What would be one reason why some organelles have DNA and others do not?

• Some organelles require organelle specific proteins and enzymes in order to function properly.

• Some organelles were believed to be primitive bacteria cells before they created a
symbiotic relationship with multicellular organisms.

Question #7

In a plant cell how is the structure of the golgi apparatus different than in an animal cell and why?

• The golgi apparatus is dependent on the actin cables than on the microtubules for
intracellular protein transportation.

Question #11

How does the process of mitosis differ in a plant cell from an animal cell and why?

The main difference between plant and animal cell mitosis is that centrioles are
necessary for the formation of the mitotic spindle in animal cell division, where
as there are no centrioles present for the mitotic spindle to form in plant cell
division. The reason that plant cells do not have centrioles is because they are
less evolved than animal cells are.

Question #12
In the image below there is a prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell(s) that have been stained to highlight their
structural proteins, what is different about their cytoskeletal filaments? Name the filament that is stained
green, what is its specific function in each and what is the evolutionary relationship (homologous,
analogous, paralogous)? (extra credit: name the other two main types of cytoskeletal filaments)

The difference between the cytoskeletal filaments are that in the prokaryotic organism they are in a helical formation, whereas
in the eukaryotic organism they are in a fibrous, thread-like formation. The microfilaments are stained green and they have a
homologous relationship. Their primary function is to determine the polarity of the cell.
The other two main types of cytoskeletal filaments found in eukaryotic cells are microtubules and intermediate filaments. 33
