Dictionary Skills.
History of DICTIONARY:
 The first purely English alphabetical dictionary was a(Alphabetical Table)
written by English school teacher Robert Cawdrey in 1604.
 In 1755 Samuel Johnson wrote a dictionary named(A Dictionary of the English) it
more reliable English dictionary .
 The “OXFORD” Dictionary of English language is a standard dictionary till
today.
 It took nearly 50 years to complete this huge book, and the finally released
the complete OED in twele volumes in 1928.
 The soft form of this book is also available in pdf, exe and apk formats.
Meaning of Skills:
 There are two types of meanings of skills which are given below:
i. As Noun: The ability to do something well; expertise.
ii. As Verb: Train (a worker) to do a particular task.

Definition of Skills:
“ A skills is an ability to perform a work or an activity in competent
manner.”
For example:
A player playing a football with skills .
A teacher techs their students with his/her skills.
Types of Skills:
 There are three types of skills which are given below:
a. The first one is Transferable. The transferable means such types of skills
which we transfer into another person such as how to play cricket. Playing
cricket is a skill which transferred into players by their coach.
b. Second one is Personal. Personal skills means which are hidden in a human
being such as playing mind games and perform well In competation of
speeches.
c. And the last one is knowledge based skills. Knowledge based is actually about
the knowledge which you have gain from the books r many other sources.
What is dictionary?
 Dictionary is sometimes known as a work book. It is a collection of words in
one as more specific languages. Books which tells about the meanings of
difficult words is also known as Dictionary.
 Dictionary is arranged in many specific alphabetically manners which are
given below:
o It may include about information on definitions.
o Its Usage.
o Its Phonetics.
o Its Pronunciation.
o And at the end its Transtations .
Characteristics of Good Dictionary:
 There are following characteristics of dictionary which are given below:
1. Tells you how words are spelt.
2. Tells you how words are pronounced.
3. Gives you the different meanings of words .
4. Gives examples of how the words are used under their respective context.
5. Gives you the plurals of nouns.
6. Gives you the synonyms and antonyms of words.
7. Gives you words derived from the same root or family .
8. Gives you the past tense and the participle forms of verbs.
9. Tells you the origin of some foreign words.
10. Gives you the meaning of useful phrases.
Types of DICTIONARY:
 There are two types of Dictionaries which are given below:
1. General Dictionary.
2. Specalised Dictionary.
 General Dictionary:
These dictionaries contain word meanings of
common use in language like urdu , English dictionary etc.
 Specialised Dictionary:
These dictionaries contain the terms definitions ,
etymology and the explaination about the special
subjects.
How to Pronounced the word from the
Dictionary:

 Pronunciation:
Pronunciation is the way in which a word or a language is spoken.
Dictionaries also tells us about the proper pronunciation of the
word.
For Examples:

Word Incorrect Correct Pronunciation.
