Poetry is a form of writing that uses not only words,
But also form,
Patterns of sound,
Imagery,
And figurative language
To convey the message.
Any Poem will include some or all of these elements.

CHARACTERISTICS OF BICOL LITERATURE

1. Its roots were from ancient folkways.


2. Poetry includes charmed verses exploiting the possibilities of words in folk
poems and narratives
3. Themes specifically deals about mythical content.
4. Bound with early historical fragments which form part of the people's lives.

The Bicolano can write memorable and significant pieces. The native literary
tradition has been resurrected and kept. How to make the people aware
and how to make them read as well and how to multiply these writings so
they can be disseminated have to be resolved

• a) Explain each particular stanza


• b) Identify the various images in the poem
• c) Brainstorm on how the poem “Mayon”
can be interpreted literally and figuratively
• First Stanza: Talks about the tragic love story of Magayon and Panganora
and that the volcano symbolizes Magayon while the clouds surrounding it
symbolizes Panganora.
• Second Stanza: Talks about street kids selling postcards of the Mayon
Volcano Eruption and how shocked the viewer is at how the peaceful the
actual volcano is.
• Third Stanza: The third stanza talks about how deceiving the beauty of the
volcano is for in reality, it has already claimed thousands of lives

Magat River. Incorporate what you know
about the River and its beginnings.
