About Windows XP
Windows expert Professional , better
known as XP Professional is the
mostly preferred client operating
system in this globe.

OPENED TASK

START TASKBAR
DESKTOP- Desktop is the first screen that
appears after booting.
ICON- Icon is a pictorial or graphical representation
of drivers, files folder etc.
TASKBAR- Taskbar contains the start button and it
also shows how many applications or tasks are
opened.
Start Button – appears on the taskbar . To start any
program click on the start button to get the Start
Menu and select the program from popup list to
open.
There are two types of Start
Menu in Windows XP.

Default Start Menu

 Task Menu Properties
1. Right-Click on Taskbar Click Properties to
display Taskbar and Start Menu Properties
dialog box.
Click start menu tab. choose—start menu
and click ok button.
 Applications in window XP
There are several inbuilt application
in window XP which are frequently
use to solve our problems. These
applications reside in program
menu.
Example – WordPad ,Notepad ,
Paint etc…
Start menu- All Program-Accessories- Application
Name – (example: Notepad.)
 Notepad
This application is mainly used to create a text
document. The default extension of notepad is .TXT.

Type the text in the writing area as shown below

The quick brown fox jumps

over the lazy dog.
Here ‘s what we ‘re planning
for the next week.
 Use of Copy and Paste
1. To repeat first two lines ,you need to use copy and
paste command. First select the text you want to
copy by holding the left mouse pointer and dragging
over the text.
2. Click Edit menu Choose and click Copy option.
3. Now place your cursor on the blank area , where you
want to paste the text.
4. Then click Edit menu Choose and click Paste
option.
 Save
1. To save the untitled notepad file Save
2. The save as dialog box appears .
3. Type the file name as “Planning .Txt”
4. Click Save button to save the untitled notepad
file
5. You will notice that the text untitled has
changed into Planning .
6. Finally Close the notepad file.
 Opening and existing
Notepad file:
1. Open Notepad application file:
2. Click File menu Open .
3. Select ‘Planning’ file and click
Open button to display the
content of the file.
 Calculator
Calculator is another default program of Windows XP.
It is just like your daily used calculator.
This program provides two types of calculators:
1. Standard
2. Scientific
You can perform normal mathematical calculations by
using this calculators:
Using Scientific calculator you can found out the values
of different angles like , Sin 30 degrees , even you can
find out the log values as well .
 To access Calculator follow the steps:
1. Start Menu All Programs Accessories calculator
2. To switch between Standard and Scientific calculator.
3. Click View menu Choose and click Scientific option to display
