„ntroduction
D Mr. Nagesh Samuel established ³Nagesh iron and steel company ltd´ in
the year 1986 with its head office located at Delhi.

D The company was established in Bilaspur in MP on a 400 acres land.

D The workforce strength was 3000.Out of which 1800 workers were on

contract basis. They formed a union which was affiliated to INTUC.

D Most of the workers hailed from Orissa, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh and
the literacy rate was very low amongst them.

D The CMD (Nagesh Samuel) was a religious, dynamic person who

believed in making quick decisions without consulting others.
Problems
D The CMD used to control the plant from the Delhi head office & visited the
factory occasionally.

D He recruited employees at senior level by being biased and gave more

preference to his relatives.

D The literacy rate amongst the employees was low.

D The CMD followed the Autocratic style of leadership.

D The working capital of the company was very high (around 9crores a month)
due to which he could not afford to stop the production.

D Due to this the union took undue advantage of Management for fulfilling their
needs.

D The CMD sacked 12 employees without any prior information and investigation.

D The company was also facing a financial loss of 300-400 crores and hence the
production on daily basis was very vital for the company.
mecommendations
D The CMD should employ people on basis of their skill and knowledge
and not on the basis of Relationship.

D The Management should reduce the communication barriers between

the workers and them.

D The autocratic mode of decision making should change and the

workers should be able to give their opinions.

D The labour union should not take undue advantage of the management
and should focus on production.

D The CMD should visit the factory on regular basis and should interact
more with the employees.

D The Literacy rate among the employees should be improved.

D Proper investigation to be done prior sacking any employees.
