1.What are the three types of rocks?

Igneous, Sedimentary and Metamorphic Rocks

2. they are formed through the solidification of sediment.
They can be formed from organic remains (such as
limestone), or from the cementing of other rocks.
SEDIMENTARY ROCKS
2. They form from the cooling of magma deep inside the
earth.
IGNEOUS ROCKS

3. They are formed through the change of sedimentary

rocks and igneous rocks.
METAMORPHIC ROCKS

TYPES OF VOLCANIC
ERUPTIONS
STROMBOLIAN
 They are named for the Italian
volcano Stromboli.
 trombolian eruptions are relatively
mild blasts.
 Strombolian eruptions consist of
ejection of incandescent cinder,
lapilli, and lava bombs, to altitudes
of tens to a few hundreds of metres.
 EXAMPLE: IRAZU VOLCANO IN
COSTA RICA
PLINIAN
Plinian
eruptions are named for the
famous Roman naturalist Pliny the Elder.
He died during an eruption of Mt.
Vesuvius in A.D. 79.
Plinianeruptions are large, violent, and
highly dangerous explosive events.
Examples: Mt. Pinatubo in Zambales, Mt.
Vesuvius in Italy.
PLINIAN
PHREATOMAGMATIC

An eruption that involves both magma and

water, which typically interact explosively,
leading to concurrent ejection of steam and
pyroclastic fragments.
PHREATOMAGMATIC
PHREATIC
 Phreatic eruptions (or steam-blast eruptions) are a
type of eruption driven by the expansion of steam.
 When cold ground or surface water come into
contact with hot rock or magma
it superheats and explodes, fracturing the
surrounding rock and thrusting out a mixture of
steam, water, ash, volcanic bombs, and volcanic
blocks
 ExAMPLES:
 TAAL VOLCANO in BATANGAS
 MT. SAINT HELENS IN WASHINGTON, USA
 MT. ONTAKE IN JAPAN
PHREATIC
VULCANIAN
A Vulcanian eruption is a short, violent,
relatively small explosion of viscous
magma (usually andesite, dacite, or
rhyolite).
The term vulcanian was first used by
Giuseppe Mercalli, witnessing the 1888–
1890 eruptions on the island of Vulcano.
His description of the eruption style is
now used all over the world for eruptions
characterised by a dense cloud of ash-
laden gas exploding from the crater and
rising high above the peak.
