1. What are the morphological features
of these borrowed words?
- The lexical borrowings clearly signifies that
Cebuano prefixes like “-gi”, “-mag”, “-nag”,
“- i”, “-na”, “-mo”, “-naka”, “-gipa”, “-
pagka” and “-ni”. The root word’s
morphological and semantic feautres were
retained accordingly as it was used in the
newspaper. Some borrowed words in the
news paper reveal morphological
assimilation.
4. What is the implication of lexical
borrowing to language preservation?
- Translating some Cebuano words instead of
loaning them into the English discourse will result in
the failure of accurate communication that the
print media have sworn to observe. Geography
and culture are also seen to have caused the
emergent of variant forms of the English lexicons
as evident by the dominant occurrences of
borrowed words.
 CONCLUSION & RECOMMENDATION
The analysis of borrowing from English into
Cebuano has revealed the richness and
complexity of this process. However, the
relationship between these classes deserves
further study.
