A way of looking at problems or situations from a fresh perspective


that suggests unorthodox solutions (which may look unsettling at
first).
Creative thinking can be stimulated both by an unstructured
process such as brainstorming, and by a structured process such
as lateral thinking.

• Thinking skills are categorized into higher-
order thinking skills and lower-order
thinking skills as follows:

• Example Questions of thinking skills:
1. Remember: What happened in 1948?
2. Understand: Re-write the following
paragraph in your own words. / Paraphrase
the paragraph.
3. Apply: Show me a picture of a rat.
HOTS
• Example Questions of thinking skills:
1. Analyse: What happened in 1948?
2. Evaluate: Make a list of pros and cons
about your teachers this semester.
3. Create: Write a song about healthy food.

• Teachers should use a mixture of HOTS


and LOTS when choosing their activities.
• When you select activities to use you
should have a criteria in mind such as:
1. Does it fit the learning outcomes?
2. Is it suitable for my learners?
3. Is it motivating?
4. How long will it take?
5. Is it a LOTS or a HOTS activity?

• Research has shown that teachers give
students less than a second to answer.
• The ideal wait time for LOTS questions is
3 seconds and 10 seconds for HOTS.
