Introduction
Power Factor(PF) is an electrical quantity
which is often related to power quantity and
energy efficiency analyses.
Power Factor is defined as the ratio between
the active power (P) and the apparent
power(S).
Alternatively, it can be expressed as the cosine
of the angle between the power phasors, only
for pure sinusoidal voltage and current
components.
There are two different types of power are
associated with electric power system.
Active power consumed by load while
reactive power energizes capacitive as well as
magnetic circuits.
In many industries, for example,loads with a
quick dynamic operation consume high levels
of reactive power (e.g.,induction
motors,welding machines etc.,).
Therefore, there is a significant PF reduction
that should be fixed, usually through capacitor
bank switching.
Objective

The purpose of this project is to introduce

a unique power factor meter based on
Arduino.
Methodology
Zero cross detection is a method which
can enable us to measure the time
between voltage and current.
In this technique we get a high value
whenever a zero will cross the system.
In this project we implemented zero
crossing using LM358 an 8 pin IC having
dual amplifiers in it.
In zero crossing, we have to get a “high”
value during crossing of zero in waveforms.
So to get that value we use amplifier as a
comparator which will compare the non
inverting reference value and then act
accordingly.
We set the reference value of zero volts at
non-inverting pin(+) of both amplifiers.
So, according to comparator action it will
give high value(1) at the output whenever a
zero will cross in the waveform.
