KINDERGARTEN:

 A school or class for children usually from


four to six years old until they go to primary school.
 It offers early childhood education to children
between the ages "two and half to seven" years
(kids)to the commencement of compulsory education.
 It is an education approach based around playing
learning and practical activities.
 It may be possible for them to eat lunch and sleep.
 Kindergarten was once only for the children whose
parents are busy in other responsibility
(jobs and business) but now it was became
an official foundation for every child.

Evolution:

• Samuel wilder spin opened his first infant


school in London in 1819.
• But original version of kindergarten was
actually build in German by "fried rich frobell".
• He was an famous educationalist. He was
the one who introduced the kindergarten.
• Kindergarten is derived from the germen
language.
• Kinder-child, garten-garden. (Is means
children's garden).

Reception:

•It is place where we wait for some time to


visit some one or greet some one.
• this area should be a warm, bright, and
welcoming area.
•To make children feel comfortable.
•It generally located at entrances.
•All the spaces are connected to reception area.
•Size of the room depends upon the
occupants or number of students.

Office room:

•The directors office will provide a space


for administrative tasks, interviews and
meetings with parents , staff members.
•It is also located at entrances from the
office, the director must have excellent
views of the building entry, reception area
and as many classrooms as possible.

Staff room:

• It is place where teachers have


their desk and prepare their lessons.
• And also a place to take rest.
•It is located in semi public zones.

Class rooms:

•A classroom is a learning space.


• So it is mainly located in private
zones only to avoid unnecessary sounds etc,..
•Size of the class room depends upon
the number of students.
•Class room should be of adequate size
and minimum floor space should at least
be 1sq meter, per each student.

Activity room:

• Activities like dancing and singing are


carried out in this room.
• This area encourages children to
interact each other.
•Music rooms should have an approximate
layout and sound insulation to avoid
disturbing other facilities.

Dinning:

• This is normally used for eating food.


• An extended corridor or the entrance
hall are also suitable as communicative places to eat.
Art room:

• Rooms for drawing should have uniform


natural light, if possible from the north.

Indoor play area:

• it is play ground used in bad weather.


• The indoor play area is also serve as
a large gathering place for performances,
movies, and other social events where
several classes and or parents would be
brought together.

Napping area:

• since infants and some young toddlers


sleep more frequently during the day,
separate areas for sleeping are required
for these age groups.
• while it is important for teachers to
be able to maintain visual and acoustical
access to this area, it should be located
away from active areas of the classroom.

Outdoor playgrounds:

•Play makes a fundamental contribution


to the development of a child's personality.
•It is mainly Through play that small
children adapt to their environment.
Play areas must be varied, changing and Changeable.
•They must meet children's needs.
•Requirements of play areas: traffic
safety, no pollution, adequate sunshine,
ground water level not too High.
•For age group area 0.6 sq m required for child.

• it is an area used for the parking


of our vehicles.
• it generally provided 20% of the
total built up area.
Napping area:

Standards:

• Required floor area approx. 25sq m per child.


• Minimum room height should be 3m.
• Number of floors should be lie between
three and four, schools for pupils who are
physically disabled or have learning
difficulties should have 1-2 story.
• Every institution will provide proper
facilities like ramps and toilets for wheel chair users.

Colors:

• Walls of kindergarten are painted with


cartoons, fairytales as it creates interest
in the mind of children.
• Dull colors are not generally provided
a they create boredom.
• Color improves visual stimulation/
relationships and pattern seeking.
• The most preferred colors are :
• green- nature, trees, comfort.
• Light yellow- - lively, energetic, happiness, summer
• Blue – relaxation, calmness.
• Red – love, romance.
• Purple – relaxation, calmness, laughing.

Planning considerations:

Design:

• Use baskets, bins, and drawers for storage and label them at a child’s
eye-level.
• Use furniture to define space and create boundaries for specific areas.
• A rug defines space and utilize wall space to display children’s work
rather than commercial materials.

Lighting and ventilation:

• School ventilation is requires high rate air exchange, in order to provide


sufficient amounts of fresh air to the children at the time of their
development.
• Lighting will depend up on the percentage openings provided and direction
of openings.
• Natural lighting is much better than the artificial lightings.

•Horizontal and vertical circulation:

• Horizontal circulation is carried out in


Horizontal direction only between the
Rooms and spaces.
• Vertical circulation is carried out in vertical
Direction between the two intermediate
Floors by providing staircases, lift, escalators etc,.

• Green belts or landscape:

• Green belts are provided to get fresh air into the building.
• Landscape includes trees, grass, plants, these landscape elements may
also served as aesthetical purpose as well as to get good air.

• This area is usually located front side of the site.

• To avoid the unwanted sounds and provide security to the children.

Safety measures:

Structural safety:
• Fireproof and fire resistive structure
• Fire detectors and alarm systems
•Sprinkler systems

Fire safety:
• Provision and protection of exists, corridors and stairs.
• Sprinkler systems.
• Materials are finished with low flame materials.

Stairs:

• One of the most critical parts of school traffic design is the


stairway.
• The stairways should be designed for easy , fast, and safe movement.
• The rises should not more than 16cms.
• Threads – 30cms to 32cms
• Railing height should be minimum of 70cms.
• Railing are provided on both sides of the staircase.
Play decks up to a height of 1.5m must have a handrail at least 70cm
high; play decks more than 1.5m high have handrails min of 100cm high.
