System Requirements

h Before Business Objects Installation is actually started the minimum requirements that
are specified in the ÿlatform.txt file which comes along with the ÿroduct istribution
should be available.
h The ÿlatform.txt file denoted the specific Version of web application, servers,
databases, and operating systems.
h -ardware:
A ÿ with 700 Mz
A 512 MB RAM, 1 GB RAM recommended
A 5 GB hard disk space
A  ROM
h Software:
A Microsoft indows Xÿ for lassroom Use Only)
A Microsoft indows 2000 Server Sÿ4
h System Database:
A ative MySQL database comes when Business Objects is Installed by default)

A This Installation is preferred when you are installing Business Objects for the first time.
A hen the installation is done on a single machine
A hen you want all the BO components installed in a machine

A This installation is preferred when you have Business Objects Installed in a machine
A hen you want to add new Business Objects ServersServices
A Improve system performance by adding new ServersServices
Œypes Of nstallation

h Custom nstallation
A our deployment of Business Objects nterprise servers will be distributed over multiple
computers.
A hen you know exactly ´hat omponents is needs to be Installed?µ

h Silent nstallation
A Silent Installation is preferred when you want to Install the Business Objects without interrupting
the people connected the machines on which you are going to perform the Installation.
A This type of Installation is carried out by executing the Installation ÿackage in ommand Line.
A This type of Installation are not often preferred for Upgrade or ustom Type of Installation.

h üpgrade nstallation
A This type of Installation is preferred while you are Upgrading the Older Version of Business Objects
i.e., Business Objects XI R1) to latest Version i.e., Business Objects XI R2).
A After you upgrade your installation, you will need to migrate your system data to the new version,
which Includes
A opying of the ontents from the Old I RS to the ew irectories of I RS
A Importing consists of copying selected objects reports, users, groups, and so on) and instances from one
system to another.
Setting üp System Database

h MS needs a System atabase to Store the Information about the User, Groups and other
Objects etc.,
h By default while Installing Business Object a MSQL database is automatically created.
h If you want to use a different database the following steps has to be carried out before
starting the Installation ÿrocess
A reate a mpty atabase in the atabase Sever and a User Account
A The MS has to hold such as the User, Groups and other object detail by writing it to System
database as and when they are createdremoved in the Business Objects nterprise.
A ence the User Account that has write ÿrivilege on the database will be used by the MS to write
all the details to the System atabase
A Verify that you can log on to your database and carry out administrative tasks using the account
you set up for use by the MS.
nstallation Checklist

h Test all the machines on which the Shared Installation is carried within the etwork are
communicating the properly to each other.
h In case if you are using your own atabase Server for holding the System atabase, Is the
atabase reated and Ready for use?
h If Auditing is necessary in your Installation, Is the Audit atabase is reated and Ready
for use?
h Is the User Account that the MS uses to rite the data into the System atabase is
reated and Ready for use?
h ave you decided which eb Application Server is going to be used.
h If TOMAT is that comes with the Installation package is not going to be used, then is
there any other eb Application already onfigured and Available for use.

h Run the SetUp.X file from the ÿroduct Installation  ROM.


h Select which language in which the Installation has to happen, and lick OK.
h lick the ´  accept the Licence Agreementµ, and click OK.
h hoose ùÿerform the nstallationµ, and click N  Œ.
h omplete the ull Name and Organization ield
h nter the ÿroduct Key ode which will provided when you purchase the Installation
Kit
h If you need the ùÿerformance Managementµ please ensure that you Select the hck
Box.
h ÿrovide the ÿroduct Key ode which would be separately provided while Installation
Kit and lick ùN  Œµ

h hoose the atabase Sever to be Installed ere the default MySQL database river is

h If you want Use xisting atabase driver :

A Select ùN Wµ
A Select ùüse an  xisting Database Driverµ and lick ùN  Œµ

h If you entered a Key ode for ÿerformance Management, decide if you want to enter the
required information to enable scheduling.
h If you don·t want to provide this credentials, Select ùLeave |lank,  will Configure
After nstallationµ.

Configure the My SQL Database Drivers (f you choose the nstall):

h nter the ÿort umber


h nter the ÿassword and onfirm ÿassword that is used by the My SQL root use account
h In case if you want to Override the efault User Account configure the User Account and
the ÿassword then onfirm the ÿassword that the MS uses to access the System
atabase.

Configure the My SQL Database Drivers (f you choose use  xisting Database):

h There are 5 different type of atabase that Business Objects support for the
configuration of the System and Audit atabase. They are
A SQL Sever OB
A Oracle
A B2
A Sybase
A MySQL
h Based on the atabase Type selected the atabase etails has to be provided specific to
that atabase.
h If Auditing is enabled then the atabase details of the Audit atabase has to be
mentioned appropriately.

Choose Web Component Adapter

h onfigure Tomcat if you chose to install it. Otherwise, skip this step.
h Accept the defaults or change the default location for the Tomcat installation andor the
following ports, and then click Next.
