THE PERCEPTIONS OF GRADE 8 –

AMORSOLO STUDENTS TOWARDS

CYBERBULLYING IN SAN ISIDRO

NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL


I. Introduction
A. Brief Background
• According to Anti-Cybercrime Operations Division Chief
PSSupt Michael Angelo Zuñiga (2017), "Cyber bullying
is the act of using digital media to be aggressive
towards other people that has an intention to persuade
the victim and put them in an embarrassing situation
that could be seen by the others, family, friends or
worst, by everyone."
• The researchers conducted this study to deepen their
understanding and not to only know the student's
perception when it comes in cyberbullying but also to
raise awareness to the netizens nowadays.
B. Objectives
• Identify the knowledge and interpretation of the
students regarding cyber bullying.
• Raise the awareness of cyber bullying as an
unacceptable form of behavior.

C. Significance
1. Municipal Office. The study will be beneficial to them
to construct strategies and methods on how to lessen
the cases of cyber bullying.
2. School Personnel. The study will give them a hint to
improve their motivational and teaching materials,
techniques or methods and skills in open forum to
students who really need their guidance.
3. Parents. The study will give them a hint on how
they would help and encourage their child to avoid
cyberbullying.
4. Students. The study will serve as a medicine to
cure the minds of every individual to become open-
minded about the consequences of their action.
5. Future Researchers. The study will make use them
as a basis and comparison to their future studies.
D. Related Literature
• According to Willard (2004), cyber bullying can take
different forms, with the main forms ranging from
flaming, to harassment, to cyber stalking.
• Shariff (2008), states that when we define a
behavior, it is important to remember it as an action
that takes place in a particular context, at a
particular time, with various influences operating on
the individuals who take the action.
• Olweus (1993) defined bullying as “when (a student) is
exposed, repeatedly and over-time, to negative actions
on the part of one or more other students” (p. 9).
• The bully is the key player in any incident of
bullying. Research shows that bullies are typically
male, at the same age or older than their victims,
stronger than their victims, and generally hold some
level of popularity on the school campus (Chan,
2006; Coloroso, 2003; Nansel et al., 2001).

II. Body

Out of 53 students in grade 8 – Amorsolo, 19 out of 21 male students
and all female students disagreed that cyber bullying must continue.
Ninety-five percent of male students and 100 percent of
female students disagreed that everyone is allowed to
send or post threats, rants, harsh words, and rumors.
Out of 21 male and 32 female students, 36 of them
agreed that making fun of people on any platform
of social media could hurt anyone.
All respondents in Grade 8- Amorsolo agreed to
what the Republic Act of 10627 contains.
All respondents of Grade 8- Amorsolo agreed that issues about cyber bullying are alarming.
Eighteen male and 25 female students agreed that the freedom of speech is well-enshrined in our constitution this right is not without any
limitation.
All male and 31 female respondents agreed that with the
increase in the use of social media, cases of cyber bullying
have likewise increases while one female correspondent
disagreed.
All female and 20 male respondents agreed that cyber bullying is under Cybercrime.
All male and 27 female respondents agreed that more than a half of the cyber aggressors are from the same school of the victim.
Half of the number of female and 15 male respondents agreed that cyber bullying chases the
child in the safest environment.
III. Results and Conclusion

According to the results above, the researchers could say that


the Grade 8- Amorsolo has sufficient knowledge concerning the
issue of cyber bullying. But as you can observe in the results in
number 3 and 10, there were some points that their
understanding towards the statements were different.
IV. Recommendation
1. Municipal Office. It is recommended to conduct methods
that will be strategic enough to decrease cyber bullying
cases within the area.
2. School Personnel. It is recommended for them to provide
lessons regarding how cyber bullying can affect everyone’s
life and emotions.
3. Parents. It is recommended for them to be focused and
aware of their child’s interaction towards social media sites.
4. Students. It is recommended for them to be more
anticipated with their attitude and behavior around social
media.
5. Future Researchers. It is recommended for them to fulfill
their future study by using this research as a basis and
comparison.
