“Efficacy of Cytoplant-400

for improved fruit set and

calibre in walnuts”
2014-2015 season

Var. Chandler in the Lampa sector, Metropolitan Region (Chile)

Test conducted by the company Nogaltec Chile Technical Consultants
Test characteristics:
 Crop: Walnut variety Chandler (2009, standard production).
 Place: Lampa sector, Metropolitan Region (Chile).
 Aim: evaluate the efficacy of Cytoplant-400 on walnut fruit set and
calibre.

Aerial view of the test site. In green, the 3 rows of 5 plants (each repetition) of
treatment T1 and in blue, the T0 treated plants, both separated by a space of 3 trees.
Methodology:
 2 treatments with 3 repetitions each
 5 trees per repetition
 Foliar and phytosanitary fertilizers were applied to the Control (T0),
according to the production program
 Treatment 1 (T1): those same applications + 3 applications of Cytoplant-400:
 1st in full flowering (17th October 2014)
 2nd and 3rd with an interval of 17 days (3rd and 19th November 2014)
 Dosage: 100 cm3/hl foliar spraying
 Mixture volume: 1,500 l/ha
Start of the repetition applied with Cytoplant-400 End of the 3 rows (each repetition) applied with Cytoplant-400

Group of marked flowers, in this

case, 3 flowers (3 notches can
been seen on the yellow strip),
which all set (there are 3 fruits on
the tree)

Flowers to be evaluated, before marking with the strip and brackets

Evaluation methods:
 To determine fruit set, the flowers were marked on the first application.
 The marked flower were in groups of 3 or 2.
 Ten groups of flowers on 5 trees per repetition were marked.
 On 26 November (2014), the number of set flowers was registered and the set
percentage was determined.
 To evaluate the calibre obtained, at the time of harvest, a total of 2 kg per repetition
were collected, picking fruit from each tree. The samples were dehulled follow the
standard procedure in the field and then air dried on trays in the shade. After 7 days, the
percentage of humidity reached 8% (standard commercial humidity), and then the
weight and diameter of each fruit were evaluated, separating them by calibre.

Production in the field was also evaluated, where all the fruit on one tree per
repetition was harvested. It was dehulled and dried in the same way as the
previous samples, the dried fruit was weighed and the production value per
tree was calculated.
Fallen walnuts and those that did not fall were collected Picking with a harvester
