Plered sub-district is known as one of the places for making pottery or
pottery. Ceramics Plered is not only marketed in Indonesia, but has
penetrated overseas. In Indonesia, Plered ceramics is one of the export
products from the Purwakarta area.

The diversity of the types and shapes of Plered ceramics has been imporved
over time. Plered ceramics are less influenced in terms of shape and type,
whether they are affected by ceramics from China or ceramics from Indonesia
itself.
How to make a product ?
Steps 1
Collecting Raw Material / Clay
• Clay is taken from the fields, then transported by vehicle to the
processing site.
• In this processing place, clay is put into a stirring machine.
• Then, the clay is stirred until it is homogeneous and ready to be formed.
Step 2
Shaping
• Craftsmen just use the homogeneous clay lumps, then shape it as
desired.
• The most basic ceramic formation technique is the rotary technique. This
technique has a high degree of difficulty, craftsmen need to train the
fingers to form a feeling in forming ceramics.
• Pottery is formed on a turntable. Through this technique a variety of
traditional ceramic pottery is formed such as plates, bowls, flower vases
and more.
Step 3
Drying
Ceramics are decorated like pasted or carved. After that, the ceramic is
aerated for about 2-3 days.
Step 4
Burning
Burning is done in high-temperature furnace until the ceramics become
biscuit-like. The biscuit-like ceramics are burnt in the range of 700◦ –
1000◦C.
