Taipei’s National Palace Museum, located in the Waishuanghsi neighborhood of the
Shihlin District, is the pride of Taiwan. It ranks as one of the four best museums in the
world, in a class with the Louvre, the British Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of
Art.

The National Palace Museum is an art museum in Taipei City, Taiwan. It is the national
museum of the Republic of China. The National Palace Museum houses the world's
largest collection of priceless Chinese art treasures, one which spans China's nearly
5,000-year history. Most of the museum's 700,000 art objects were part of the Chinese
imperial collection, which began over 1,000 years ago in the early Sung dynasty.
Most of the collection is high quality pieces collected by China's ancient emperors.
Since the museum only has space to display around 15,000 pieces at any given time, the
majority of the treasures are kept well protected in air-conditioned vaults buried deep in
the mountainside. The displays are rotated once every three months, which means
60,000 pieces, can be viewed in a year and it would take nearly 12 years to see them all.
The National Palace Museum was originally
established as the Palace Museum in Beijing’s Forbidden
City on October 10th 1925, shortly after the expulsion of
Puyi, the last emperor of China, from the Forbidden City
by warlord Feng Yu-hsiang. The articles in the museum
consisted of the valuables of the Imperial Family. In 1965,
the temporary National Palace Museum opened its
doors in Taipei.

Taiwan has a dearth of indigenous energy sources. As a

result, it imports over 98% of its energy, mostly in the form
