Maintenance & troubleshooting

 Function-Testing method: turn on the air source, short circuit port 2 and port 8
 Observe if there are many dirt or some water in the air source
 Check filter & silencer if they are blocked

Can’t start air pump

 If you can't open the air compressor in Service->Debug->Mix unit->Open air compressor, please
check these:
 1) Please check if the RS232 cable connecting the main unit and pneumatic unit is loose or not, or replace a
new cable.
 2) Check if the fuse on the pneumatic unit is burnt or not. It is below the power plug on rear panel of
pneumatic unit.
 3) Open the air compressor, and check if any cable connecting to the gas control board is loose or not.
 4) Remove the temperature protect sensor from the gas control board (J6), and short circuit J6. Then open
the air compressor again, if the air compressor starts work, please replace temperature protect sensor.
 5) If still can't open, please check if the green LED light on or not when you start the air compressor. If it
doesn't light on, it might be the problem of the gas control board. Please replace and have a try.
 6) If the LED light on and the fan starts working but air pump doesn't work, please replace the air pump.
 7) Find the RS232 port on rear panel of pneumatic unit, and you can connect port2 and port 8. If it starts
working, so it means the pneumatic unit is good, maybe the problem is the RS232 cable connecting to main
unit, interface board, cable of interface board to CPU board.

Can’t start air pump

 If you can open the air compressor in Service->Debug->Mix unit->Open air compressor, but the
pneumatic unit shut down when do tests, please check the following:
 1) Access Service->Status->Temp&Pressure, and make sure all the pressures are about the right value. For
example, 250Kpa pressure to be about 250KPa. If not, please adjust the relating regulator. Adjust 250KPa
regulator, and check if the 250KPa real value change. If it doesn’t change, maybe the regulator is defective.
 2) Login in as administrator (ADMIN, ADMIN), then stay in Service->Status ->Temp&Pressure menu, wait
and check if the pneumatic shut down. If the air compressor keeps working, maybe and see what alarm
appears on the screen or which pressure is abnormal thus cause the shutdown.
 3) Please check if there is any block of the tubes in the pneumatic unit.
 4) After the pneumatic unit shut down suddenly, open the cover of the pneumatic unit, check if panel 1 is hot.
If it is too hot, the protective temperature sensor will shut down the air compressor. Please start the air
compressor in service menu, and check if the two fans (upper and lower) work good.
 5) Please replace the gas control board and have a try.
 6) Please replace the air pump and have a try.

250KPa abnormal

 250KPa > 300

 250KPa <200

52 © 2011 Mindray Confidential

250KPa abnormal
 First check if the air compressor can work. If not please check according to “air
compressor doesn’t work”.
 Then access Service->Status->Pressure, check the pressure value. Increase the
regulator (0.25MPa, or we call it relief valve) on the pneumatic unit to see if it goes up.
If it doesn’t go up, maybe the regulator is defective.
 Open the cover of the pneumatic unit, check all the tubes inside.
 Open the left cover of BC-5500 main instrument, check the pressure filter, drier and
related tubing.
 Check the pressure sensor by exchanging them. Exchange the sensor of 0.25MPa with
that of 0.16MPa, then check the value on the “Status >Temp&Pres.” Screen.
 At last, change the air pump.

53 © 2011 Mindray Confidential

160KPa/70KPa/-40KPa/-85KPa Abnormal

 1. Check the air compressor by the indicator on the pneumatic unit whether it is working.
If not, go to the “Service->Debug->Mix unit” screen and press “turn on the compressor”
to turn it on.
 2. Access Service->Status->Temp&Pressure, check if 250KPa is normal. If it is out of
range, please check according to “250KPa abnormal”.
 3. Check the WC1 and Buffer bath whether they are full. If yes, firstly drain the WC1 in
the “Service > Maintain” screen; secondly shut down the air compressor in the “Service
> Self-test > Valve” screen, then unscrew the Buffer bath and empty it. Please
reassemble the Buffer bath to check again.
 4. Adjust the corresponding regulators.
 5. Check the pressure sensor on power driver board by exchanging them. For example,
exchange the sensor of 0.25MPa with that of 0.16MPa, then check the value on the
“Status >Temp&Pres.” Screen. If the sensor has some problem, you need to replace
the power driver board.

Cylinder Action Error
 1. Perform self-test in the “Service > Self-test > Mechanical” screen.
 2. Check the pressure value whether they are within normal range.
 3. Check whether there is any leakage or the connector is loose.
 4. Check the optical sensor. You could remove another one from the unit and
replace the one of pierce cylinder to check.
