Scheme
What is
Switched
Conductor
HVDC ?

- (SC-HVDC) is a modified bipolar HVDC scheme.

- Rectifiers at the sending end and the inverters at the receiving end ,conventional bipolar HVDC transmission.

- The addition of control valves T13, T23 and diodes D13, D23 for (SC-HVDC) .

- Has high power transfer capability, high equipment utilization, and simple control compared with HVAC transmission, bi-polar HVDC
and tri-polar HVDC transmission .
Operating
Principle

Phase 1: T13 is turned on, current flow though Conductors 1 and 3, return through
Conductor 2.

Phase 2: T23 is turned on, Conductor 2 and 3 share the returning current.
Compensation
THIS METHOD REQUIRES EXTRA THE SC-HVDC SCHEME COULD BE CONDUCTANCE COMPENSATION BY
COST,IT REDUCES TRANSMISSION IMPROVED BY CONDUCTANCE DECREASING THE RESISTANCE OF
LOSS. COMPENSATION WHICH IS, IF THE THE CONDUCTOR 3.
THIRD CONDUCTOR CAN CARRY
SOME MORE CURRENT THAN THE
OTHER TWO.
Simulation for comparison
The power transfer has increased 65 % compared to
HVAC circuits, and 26.5% compared to bipole HVDC
systems.

The semiconductor devices and transformers are

better utilized than the tripole HVDC systems.
Conclusion
Utilization factors of semiconductor devices are 60%
and 57.7% for SC-HVDC and tripole HVDC
respectively.

Utilization factors of transformers are 100% and

73.2% for SC-HVDC and tripole HVDC respectively.
