What is Medisave?

Medisave is a
national medical savings scheme which
helps individuals put aside part of
their Medisave Accounts to meet their
future personal or immediate family’s
hospitalization, day surgery and
certain outpatient expenses.

Points to note on Medisave usage for Maternity:

Medisave can be used starting from


the birth of your first child onwards.

For your fifth and subsequent children however,


Medisave can only be used if the combined
Medisave balance of you and your spouse
is at least $15,000 at the time of the delivery.

This is to ensure that you have sufficient


Medisave for future hospitalisation needs,
especially after retirement.

Frequently asked questions

•What do I need to do at the point of admission?


•Inform the hospital staff that you wish to use Medisave to pay the hospital bill.
The staff will then ask you for your NRIC/Passport. If you are paying for your family
member, you are required to declare truthfully the patient’s relationship to you.
•You will then need to sign a Medisave Authorisation From to allow the Central
Provident Fund Board (CPFB) to pay the hospital bill from your Medisave Account.

•Do I still need to pay the hospital deposit at the time of admission?
•No

•Can I use my Medisave savings to pay for the hospital bills incurred by my family
members?
•Yes, you can use your Medisave savings to pay for the hospital bill of your spouse,
children and parents.
• How much can I use my Medisave to pay for my hospital bills?
• The amount depends on the complexity of the procedure, it ranges from S$250
to a maximum of $7,550

• Can Medisave be used for transport and hotel costs?


• No, Medisave is for medical treatment only. Transport, food and
accommodation costs for patients (other than as part of the hospitalisaiton
stay) or their family members cannot be claimed from Medisave as these are
not part of medical treatment. These associated costs must be paid in cash.

• What are the overseas treatments that Medisave can be used for?
• For medically necessary hospitalisations and surgical procedures received
overseas. Cosmetic treatments and minor surgical procedures are excluded.

• Can I use Medisave to pay for pre-delivery and delivery overseas?


• Medisave for overseas cannot be claimed unless the patient is admitted
overseas due to an emergency.
