POLLUTION

 Pollution, also called environmental pollution, the

addition of any substance (solid, liquid, or gas) or any
form of energy (such as heat, sound, or radioactivity) to
the environment at a rate faster than it can be
dispersed, diluted, decomposed, recycled, or stored in
some harmless form.
 Pollution of all kinds can have negative effects on the
environment and wildlife and often impacts human
health and well-being.

WATER POLLUTION
 Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies,
usually as a result of human activities.
 Water bodies include for example lakes, rivers, oceans,
aquifers and groundwater. Water pollutionresults when
contaminants are introduced into the natural
environment.
CAUSES OF WATER POLLUTION:

 Sewage And Waste Water: Sewage, garbage and liquid

waste of households, agricultural lands and factories are
discharged into lakes and rivers.
 These wastes contain harmful chemicals and toxins
which make the water poisonous for aquatic animals
and plants.
AIR POLLUTION

 Air pollution is a mix of particles and gases that can

reach harmful concentrations both outside and indoors.
 Its effects can range from higher disease risks to rising
temperatures. Soot, smoke, mold, pollen, methane, and
carbon dioxide are a just few examples of
common pollutants.
CAUSES:

 Burning of Fossil Fuels

 Agricultural activities
 Exhaust from factories and industries
 Mining operations
 Indoor air pollution
LAND POLLUTION

 Land pollution is the deterioration (destruction) of

the earth's land surfaces, often directly or indirectly as a
result of man's activities and their misuse
of land resources.
 It occurs when waste is not disposed of properly, or can
occur when humans throw chemicals onto the soil in the
form of pesticides, insecticides and fertilizers during
agricultural practices. Exploitation of minerals (mining
activities) has also contributed to the destruction of the
earth’s surface.
CAUSES:

 This is caused by the overuse of chemical fertilizers, soil

erosion caused by running water and other pest control
measures; this leads to loss of fertile land for agriculture,
forest cover, fodder patches for grazing etc.
 When land is polluted, it directly or indirectly affects the
climate patterns.
THERMAL POLLUTION

 Thermal pollution is the degradation of water quality by any process

that changes ambient water temperature.
 A common cause of thermal pollutionis the use of water as a coolant
by power plants and industrial manufacturers.

 Industrial Effluents
 Domestic Sewages
NOISE POLLUTION

 Noise pollution, also known as

environmental noiseor sound pollution, is the
propagation of noise with harmful impact on the activity
of human or animal life.

 The source of outdoor noise worldwide is mainly caused

by machines, transport and propagation systems.
