Indroduction
• The great indus basin extends over the most
of eastern pakistan and western parts of india
• Covering an area about875,000 km
• Given geological and tectonic evolution , the
indus basin can be divided into three parts
• From north to south the uper indus basin, the
middle indus basin and the southern indus
basin
• These sub-basin are separated by topographic
elevations of the precambrian indian shield
• The sargodh high between the upper and
middle indus basin and the khairpur-
jacobabad high between the middle and
southern indus basins
Geology of the lower indus basin
• it is bounded to the north by the central indus
basin
• Northwest by the suleiman fold belt basin
• In the southwest by the kirthar fold belt basin
• The main tectonic event which are controlled the
structure and sedimentalogy of the lower indus
basin are rifting of the indian plate from
ghonwanaland which probably created NE-SW to
N-S rifting system and east ward tilting at the
starting of cretaceous
Stratigraphy of lower indus basin

A generalized stratigraphic
column of the lower indus basin a
with an average thickness of
reservoir formations, which are
further divided into units by
lithology
Petroleum system of lower indus basin

Seal rock
• Sembar Formation acts as seal rock for Chiltan
Formation. Upper Goru Formation is mainly
composed of shale and marl; that is why it can
act as seal rock. Hence it is serving as an
excellent cap rock for underlying Lower Goru
sand reservoir Ranikot and Ghazij formations
also act as a seal
operational Field of lower indus basin
• Sui Field
• Sui gas field is the biggest natural gas field in
pakistan
• Discovered in 1952
• Located in mari bugtti transverse uplift in sabbi
district of baluchistan
• Field operated by ppl (pakistan petroleum limited
• The gas reserve discovered in sui were total of
11.67 trillion cubic feet
• Producing formation—Sui main limestone,sui
uper limestone,pab sandstone,habib rahi
limestone
• Total depth 3,o66m
• Found sui main limestone 600 m thick with a 226
m gas column
• Porosity is 6.7-28.4% carbon dioxide and 3.5%
nitrogen
• Current production rate.the daily production is
around 448 million cubic feet
• Remaining reserve are estimated to be at about 2
trillion cubic feet
• Producing wells are 85
Tandoo alam field

• Tandoo alam field opened in may 1984

• Located in the badin trough of the thar
plateform in hyderabad district sindh
• Field operated by OGDCL
• Producing formation Goru formation
• It is a north-south trending anticline bounded
by two fault ,with four way closer at middle
and lower Goru level
• Orginal oil reserve were 20.16 million bbl
• In 1994 oil production was 919 barrel per day
• Pasakhi oil Field
• Pasakhi oil field discovered in 1989
• Located in the badin trough in hyderabad district
sindh
• Operational field ….OGDCL
• Producing formation..Goru Formation
• It is a horst block bounded by two normal fault
dipping to the to the west and east respectively
• Original reserve were 9.37 million bbl
• In 1994 producing was 2,320 barrel per day
• Khaskheli field
• Khaskheli field ,discovered in june 1981
• Located in the badin trough in hyderabad
disrict of sindh
• The structure is a tilted fault block dipping to
west and boundedbby a down-to – the east
fault that divided in three branches in the
center and two in the south of 30.5 to 61 m
throw
• The structure is separated into five block and
the oil cover more than 17.8sq km
• Producing reservoirs are lower Goru upper
sand unit
• Average porosity is 25.permeability exceed 1
darcy
• Original reserve were 8.196 million bbl
• 1994 production was 684 b/day of oil and 331
mcf/day of gas
Kadanwari field

• Kadanwari gas field was discovered in augest

in 1989
• Located on the thar platform in khairpur
district of sindh
• Operation company-… lasmo group
• Reservoir formation.. sember formation
• Original gas reserve 728 bcf
