Jesus Lives!

Jesus Lives
 Jesus and the events of the
resurrection inspired the
development of the early Church and
are still the foundation of Christian
belief today.

 Jesus’ life and death encourages us to

live a life that will make a difference.
We will be rewarded with eternal life

Key Questions
1. What happened when Jesus was resurrected?
2. How was the Christian Church established without
Jesus?
3. How does the resurrection reflect the core beliefs of
Christianity?
4. How does the life and death of Jesus apply to me?

Form small groups. Your teacher will allocate you a

number. Draft a paragraph response to your question and
be ready to share with the class.
The fruit of an apple tree is not an apple,
it is another apple tree.

Think, pair, share: What does this mean? How

does it link with the resurrection of Jesus?

In your notebook, outline the key events. Do you know who the
characters are?

In pairs, decide your job:

Person A: Summarise Matthew’s account of the resurrection

Mt 28:1-10 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Mt+28%3A1-
10&version=NRSVCE

Person B: Summarise Mark’s account of the resurrection

Mk 16:1-8 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Mark+16%3A1-
8&version=NRSVCE

Record the key events of all three accounts in your notebook.

Key questions to consider for
each Gospel account
1. What is/are the name/s of the person/s recorded by all evangelists as
having gone to the tomb?
2. What did the women discover about the stone near the tomb?
3. Where was the body of Jesus?
4. What were they told about Jesus?
5. What were they told to do after that?
6. What were the strangers like?
7. Who rolled the stone away?
8. What did the people at the tomb say to the women?
9. What did the women do?
10. Did anything unusual happen on the way?
11. Did the apostles/disciples/brethren believe the women?
Compare the three
 Draw a Triple Venn Diagram (use MS Word’s
SmartArt – relationship)
 Fill in 10 (or more) facts about each gospel according to
the questions on the previous slide
 In the centre, find 5 common factors to list

Underneath the Venn

 Suggest explanations for similarities and differences.
 Summarise the responses of disciples to the Resurrection.
 Outline the significance of the Resurrection then and now

THE ROAD TO EMMAUS (Luke 24:13-27)

The meaning of the Road to
Emmaus
Jesus approached the men and assured them that the scripture’s
message about God’s plan was coming to fruition.

They were traumatized by the events of the crucifixion and thus found
it difficult to believe that there was light at the end of the tunnel.

Their trust is a little like ours – if we trust that Jesus was (and still is
and will be), then we will continue our journey with God and carry on
Jesus’ mission of good words and deeds.

Key Verse: Jesus explained to them what was said about Himself in all the
Scriptures. He began with Moses and all the Prophets. - Luke 24:27

Main Point: Jesus’ death and resurrection fulfilled all of God’s promises.
Imagine – Creative Task A
You are one of the disciples who have witnessed
Jesus’ return. Tweet or Instagram your reaction and
reflection of this event. Print your composition for
your teacher to display in your core classroom.

Regulations:
• The tweet must be less than 140 characters and
look authentic in layout (i.e. find a blank twitter
template)
• The Instagram pic must have an appropriate
caption and at least 3 relevant #hashtags
Creative Task B
 Use BitStrips to create a reconstruction of the story of
the Road to Emmaus. The scripture reference is:
Luke 24:13-27

 Write your script (i.e. plan how many pictures and

suitable captions) and then experiment with the
program

notebook
Optional/Extension Task 1
 Prepare your own eulogy which emphasises their

world, the afterlife, grief and hope
Optional/Extension Task 2
 Students choose a perspective (Christian, Atheist,
other) and present their findings about what this
position believes about the afterlife.
Optional/Extension Task 3
 Choose one or more art works to view. What can you
determine about the artist’s understanding of the
Resurrection?
