Frameset
Definition and Usage
• The <frame> tag is not supported in HTML5.
• The <frame> tag defines one particular window
(frame) within a <frameset>.
• Each <frame> in a <frameset> can have different
attributes, such as border, scrolling, the ability to
resize, etc.
• Note: If you want to validate a page containing
frames, be sure the <!DOCTYPE>is set to either
"HTML Frameset DTD" or "XHTML Frameset
DTD".

Target
The Target Attribute specifies where to open the
linked document.

Value Description

_blank Opens the linked document in a new window or tab

_self Opens the linked document in the same frame as it was clicked (this is
default)

_parent Opens the linked document in the parent frame

_top Opens the linked document in the full body of the window

framename Opens the linked document in a named frame

Hyperlink
• Definition and Usage
• The href attribute specifies the URL of the
page the link goes to.
• If the href attribute is not present, the <a> tag
is not a hyperlink.

•An absolute URL - points to another web site (like

•A relative URL - points to a file within a web site (like

•Other protocols (like https://, ftp://, mailto:, file:,
etc..)
•A script (like href="javascript:alert('Hello');")

page (the name attribute is not supported in
HTML5):

subject (will only work if you have mail
installed):
