This document discusses industrial automation, including its definition as the use of technologies and automatic control devices to automatically operate and control industrial processes with minimal human intervention. It achieves this through mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical and electronic devices and computers. Industrial automation is classified into autonomous automation, building automation, and home automation. Automated machines like vending machines and robots are examples provided. Automation provides benefits like flexibility and speed in manufacturing. Tools used in automation include PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, neural networks and more. In conclusion, automation is increasingly important in industries and will take over more human workloads.

• What is Industrial Automation?
• How it can be achieved? • Classification. • Tools required for automation. • Advantages • Example of automation system. • Conclusion. What is Industrial Automation?
• Automation takes a step further mechanization
that uses a particular machinery mechanism aided human operators for performing a task. Mechanization is the manual operation of a task using powered machinery that depends on human decision making. • On the other hand, automation replaces the human involvement with the use of logical programming commands and powerful machineries. • Industrial Automation is the replacement with computers and machines to that of human thinking.
• The word Automation gives the meaning ‘self
dictating’ or ‘a mechanism move by itself’ that derived from the Greek words Auto.
• Matos where auto means self while Matos
means moving. • Industrial automation can be defined as the use of set technologies and automatic control devices that results the automatic operation and control of industrial processes without significant human intervention and achieving superior performance than manual control.
• These automation devices include PLCs, PCs,
PACs, etc. and technologies include various industrial communication systems In Thermal power plants automation provided for achieving sustainable, safe and economic operations.
It provides the total integrated automation
(TIA) by automating every section of power plant with efficient control devices, field sensors and actuating devices HOW IT CAN BE ACHIEVED ?
* Automation has been achieved by various means including
mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical , electronic devices and computers, usually in combination. Complicated systems , such modern factories, airplanes and ships typically use all these combined techniques
* the diagram is the example for an
Automated machine which combines multiple Technologies to perform automated task Classification * Autonomous automation - autonomous software agents to adapt controllers of computer controlled industrial machinery and processes * Building automation - advanced functionality provided by the control system of a building . A building automation system (BAS) is an example of a distributed system
* Home automation - control system of a home
AUTOMATED MACHINES
• VENDING MACHINE: Which gives us required item or food
item when we drop a coin
• ROBOT: a mechanical or virtual intelligent agent that can perform
tasks automatically or with guidance, typically by remote control.
• CONVEYORS : Which carries things fast autatically and reduces
the work load for human Benefits of Automation system • Automation system provides the automatic control equipment that offers a great flexibility for making changes in the product design. These changes can be performed quickly through the commands given in the form of codes by the human operators. • Examples of this automation system are numerically controlled machines, paper mills, steel rolling mills, industrial robots, etc. Tools required to make a machine automated ? * Artificial neural network (ANN) * Human machine interface (HMI) * Laboratory information management systems (LIMS) * Industrial control systems (ICS) * Distributed control systems (DCS) * Manufacturing execution systems (MES) * Programmable automation controller (PAC) * Programmable logic controller (PLC) * Supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) * Simulation engineering technology (SET) CONCLUSION
The automation industry seems to be developing
endlessly and in the near future it will play sheer dominance in industrial field and to relive the work load of human and also with automatic machines we can get blazing speed and great accuracy.
