BASES FOR SELECTING


EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
There are many bases for selecting
educational objectives.
Some of them are as follows :
① The level of development of the student, their
interest, needs.
② The development which will help them to face
reality in the future.
③ The nature of the subject-matter.
④ The cultural and philosophical values.
⑤ The materials, facilities and instructional
methods, which are necessary to attain a
particular goal.

The bases for selecting them are as follows :
① The level of development of the student,

8. CLASSIFICATION OF
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
Educational objectives can be classified in many
ways, depending upon the different principles of
classification.
One of the ways in which
educational objectives are classified
is : ①Broad educational objectives (General
objectives)
②Classroom educational objectives (specific
objectives)
lBroad educational objectives are ultimate
educational objectives, whereas classroom
educational objectives are immediate
instructional objectives.
lThere are still more ways in which they are
known.
lBroad educational objectives take long period
of the time for their realisation. So they are
known as long range objectives.
lClassroom objectives take short of time for
their realisation and, therefore, they are
known as short range objectives.
Broad educational objectives
indicate the most important
aspects of human development as
follows:
①To develop the sense of citizenship
②To develop the sense of self sufficiency
③To develop the sense of appreciation
④To develop the sense of justice
üAll the underlined phrases indicate the broad
aspect of human development.
üThe classroom objectives are unique to a
particular unit or to a particular lesson in a unit.
lThe broad educational objectives give
direction to the teaching-learning process,
whereas the classroom objectives serve as
basis for the choice of classroom procedure.
lThese classroom objectives enable us to make
broad educational objectives applicable at the
level of pupils in a particular class.
• However, it must be remembered that
classroom objectives are consistent with the
broad educational objectives.
• They are ultimately responsible for the total
achievement of broad educational objectives.

– In short, it can be said that broad objectives are


indirect, while classroom objectives are direct,
specific and functional.
