The older idea that housework, cooking and
child care are “women’s work” is being
discarded

Marriage, husband and wife share
both financial and domestic
responsibilities.
In most families, the working wife
probably still handles the larger
share of the housework . But she
gets some help from the husband.

questioned identified themselve as “very happy”

- The U.S divorce rate is twice that of Europe and three times
higher than Japan's.

- Americans don't consider marriage a casual, unimportant


relationship.

- In marriage, they always seek physical, emotional,


intellectual compatibility. They wanted to be deeply loved
and understood.

- Americans believe that they end one marriage hoping that


the next will be happier.

increasing fast.
+Their behavior is increasingly accepted by the
general population.

Number of opposite-sex unmarried couple living


together (cohabitation) rose from about half a million
(1970) to about 8.5 million today (updated 2018 figures).

The gay population’s lifestyle is also considered


alternative.
+The percentage of same-sex couples in America is
about 4.5% (updated 2017 figures)

Happy anniversary
Americans celebrate the completion of each successful
year of marriage.
Married couples celebrate most of their wedding
anniversaries rather quietly.
But certain anniversaries – especially the 25th and 50th– are
considered more important and are commonly celebrated
with big parties.
A particular type of gift is traditional for each
anniversaries, though this tradition is usually ignored,
except for the 25th, when silver is given, and the 50th, when
a gift of gold is traditional.
