INTRODUCTION
SUN
 From time immemorial, the sun has been the major source of energy
for life on earth. Solar energy is almost unbounded.

Even today, the energy we originate from fuel-wood, petroleum,

paraffin, hydroelectricity and even our food originates obliquely from
sun.

What Is Solar Energy?

Solar Energy is the radiant energy that is produced by sun. Every
day, the sun radiates (sends out) an enormous amount of energy—
called solar energy. It radiates more energy in one day than the world
uses in one year.

This energy comes from within the sun itself. Like most stars, the sun
is a big gas ball made up mostly of hydrogen and helium gas.
SOLAR GRASS CUTTER
A Solar grass cutter is a machine that uses sliding blades to cut a
lawn at an even length.
Grass cutter machines have become very popular today. Most of the
times, grass cutter machines are used for soft grass furnishing.

In a time where technology is merging with environmental

awareness, consumers are looking for ways to contribute to the relief
of their own carbon footprints.

Pollution is man-made and can be seen in our own daily lives, more
specifically in our own homes.

Herein, we propose a model of the automatic grass cutting machine

powered through solar energy, (nonrenewable energy) This model
reduces both environment and noise pollution.
LITERATURE SURVEY
The first grass cutter was invented by
Edwin Budding in 1830 in Thrupp, just
outside Stroud, in Gloucestershire,
England. Budding's mower was
designed primarily to cut the grass on
sports grounds and extensive gardens,
and granted a British patent on August
31, 1830

Vicky Jain et. al. [1] They have prepared wireless grass cutter. There are
two main components such as transmitter and receiver.
Transmitter continuously transmits the rays if any
obstacle come in front of grass cutter then the rays are
reflected back towards the receiver. The receiver receive the
signals in the serial form encoder but microcontroller
required parallel data for communication so receiver sends data to
decoder to convert data in the parallel form and then it passed
 Ashish Kumar Chaudhari et. al. [2] In this paper they have
prepared manually handle device which is capable to cut the grass.
This device consists of linear blades and it does not affected by
climatic conditions
 If any obstacle comes in front of grass cutter then it sense by IR
sensor and gives signal to the microcontroller to change the direction
or stop the grass cutter until the obstacle is removed.

CONCLUSION OF LITRATURE SURVEY

Many researchers have considered their own techniqes to prepare solar
grass cutter. One of them prepare smart grass cutter , it’s requierd skilled
operater to operating the cutter. Another one prepared wire less grass cutter,
it’s totally deped on sensor. After analizing review of both project we have
decide to prepare manually operated solar grass cutter, easily operated and
cut different type grasses in different field.
METHODOLOGY
 Coming to the working of solar powered grass cutter , it has panels
mounted in a particular arrangement at an angle of 45 degrees in such a
way that it can receive solar radiation with high intensity easily from the
sun.

 These solar panels convert solar energy into electrical energy as

studied earlier. Now this electrical energy is stored in batteries by using a
solar charger.

 The main function of the solar charger is to increase the current from
the panels while batteries are charging, it also disconnects the solar
panels from the batteries when they are fully charged and also connects
to the panels when the charging in batteries is low.
The motor is connected to the batteries through connecting
wires .Between these two mechanical circuit breaker switch is
provided. It starts and stops the working of the motor.
From this motor, the power transmits to the mechanism and this
makes the blade to slide on the fixed blade and this makes to cut the
grass.

EXPECTED RESULTS
As Expected This project is more suitable for a common man as it is
having much more advantages i.e, no fuel cost, no pollution and no
fuel residue, less wear and tear because of less number of moving
components and this can be operated by using solar energy.

This can be easily handled. As we are nearer to Equator, the solar

energy (nonconventional energy) is vastly available, so it is easy to
charge the battery and is also pollution free.

But the initial investments of the solar powered grass cutter is high .
At present in order to curtial global warming and ozone depletion, the
Government of India is offering subsidy for the solar equipments.

The industries are producing these components in mass

productions, so the cost of the system may come down.
So in future it is expected to run all equipments by using solar
energy.
This system is having facility of charging the batteries while the
solar powered grass cutter is in motion. The same thing can be
operated in night time also, as there is a facility to charge these
batteries in day light.

Since solar grass cutter is efficient, Compact size and Portable, No

fuel cost, No pollution, Less wear and tear, Non-skilled person can also
operate.

Hence our project is based on the solar energy conversion to

mechanical energy to run a grass cutter.
