ABSTRACT

The principle of induction heating states that when a high frequency AC voltage is applied across the work coil, a magnetizing current flows through it.
This will generate flux in the work piece and induce voltage into it. Since the work piece is closed into itself, eddy current flow into it and thus inducing a
large amount of heat due to finite resistance offered by the work piece. The depth of penetration is directly proportional to the square root of resistivity of
the work piece and inversely proportional to the square root of the applied frequency. A 3-phase variable frequency inverter is to be developed that feeds
a high frequency AC power to the work coils. A 1-phase uncontrolled bridge rectifier with necessary with necessary filter circuits to reduce the ripple in the
output waveforms supplies the DC supply to the inverter. The source of this rectifier is the 1-phase 230V 50Hz power source available as domestic supply.
Also, necessary arrangement will be done for the correction of power factor on the supply side due to the high inductive work coils.
