 The island of Linapacan is also home to the ruins of an old 18th century
Spanish fort at Caseledan, very much overgrown by vines, with only the
walls and a well remaining. It is near a pearl farm and may require a guide
to find.
 Withits clearest waters in the world, covered by 60% forest, Linapacan is
definitely a treat for nature lovers. The 52 surrounding islands are additional
pearls in this gem of the Philippines.
HISTORY
- During the 16th Century when the Spanish Government sent
Missionaries to spread Christianity in the Philippines, one of the
places where the missionaries settled was an island between
Paragua and Coron. It was said that when they set foot on
the island, they saw footprints along the shore. They traced
the footstep which eventually led them into a hut where a
beautiful woman resided. When they asked her name, she
answered “Pacan” . Then later, they discovered that she was
the wife of the Chieftain of the Island. So they named the
island “Reina Pacan”, in honor of the beautiful queen. Long
after “Reina Pacan” became Linapacan.
- The Spanish Missionaries later established a settlement, a
church and forts at Eli island and Sitio Caseledan to protect
them from the invading Moro Pirates.
- Linapacan was then part of Coron Municipality, but due too
the many difficulties in transacting business and other
activities because of the geographical distance to Coron,
leaders made a representation of Becoming a Town. So Hon.
Gaudencio E. Abordo, the representative of Palawan in
Congress filed a bill which was signed into law on June 12,
1954 as Republic Act No. 1020, creating the municipality of
Linapacan in the Province of Palawan.
- The law separated Linapacan from the Municipality of
Coron and Thereby created the Municipality of Linipacan
consisting Fifty-two (52) Island and Islets comprising Ten(10)
Barangays, covering an aggregate land are Namely: Iloc
(Barangonan), Cabunlawan, Calibagbangan, Decabaitot,
Nangalao and Pical, while the Barangays of San Miguel,
