free stock.

• Under controlled conditions they can be
grown in greenhouse and cool houses.

• Regular water supply is essential during
growth and blooming.
• Proper ventilation is must to provide fresh air
for normal growth.
Climatic requirements
• High-quality freesias grow best at 13 to 16°C .
• Temperatures above 16°C should be avoided
after corms have been planted.
• Floral initiation is enhanced by short days,
even though freesia is a day neutral plant.
• Vegetative growth is favored by long days and
high light levels
Cultivation and management practices
• Application of 200 ppm N from a balanced N–P–K
fertilizer every two weeks is adequate.
• No superphosphate must be used.
• The medium should be kept moist but not wet
• Freesias have contractile roots and the corm is
systematically pulled deeper into the medium
profile where moisture is abundant .
• The best irrigation system for cut flowers is drip
irrigation.

• Aphids
• Bulb mites
• Snails and slugs
• Thrips
Diseases of Freezia flower
• Bacterial soft rot
• Dry rot
• Fusarium wilt
• Root and stem rot

• Nutrient disorders.
• Water excess or deficiency.
• Unbalanced fertilizer dose.

• Used as cut flowers.
• freesia flowers are grown for their scented oil.
The oil used in perfumes, bath oils, soaps and
lotions, according to The Flower Expert.
• Flowers are presented as gift in occasions like
weddings, festivals, and anniversaries.
Post harvest factors
• Water relations
• Respiration
• Relative humidity
• Preservative solutions
• Precooling and storage
• Packing and transporting
Preservative solutions
• Chemical sugars ,salts and growth regulators.
• Antiethylene and hydrated compounds.
• Antiethylene compounds in preservative
solutions reduce the action of ambient
ethylene as well as autocatalytic production of
ethylene by fresh cut flowers
