MY SPECIAL AFLAC DUCK
■ A social robot duck as a companion for
children going through cancer treatment.
■ How it comforts kids?
*Chest sensor : letting kids use feeling cards
to change the mood and behaviors.
*Feeling cards: RFID enabled circular discs
with emojis on them.
*Removable plushness
*Movements are natural – even has breathe
and heartbeat.
*Chemotherapy: allows the duck to receive
chemotherapy medicine helping kids feel less
scared about receiving their own.
*Light sensor and microphone: adapt to
different environments and adjust the duck’s
behavior accordingly.
*Price: costs $200, but Aflac is donating one at
no cost to any children newly diagnosed with
cancer.
