ANARCHISM

Introduction & Etymology

 Anarchism is a system that supports the theory that all forms of

government is oppressive and corrupt in nature and should be
abolished .

 The etymology of this term traces back to the Greek

word “anarkhia” which means “without rulers” or “without authority”.

 Basically Anarchism stands for the absence of domination,

hierarchy and power over others.

 It believes that the society should be run on a voluntary and

cooperative basis without any compulsion or restrictions.
Origin & Background
 Even before the recorded history human society was without an
established authority or a formal political institution.

 The first known political usage of the word anarchy appears in a Greek
play dated at 467 BC.

 Although Modern anarchism sprang in the 17th Century from the secular
or religious thought of the ”Enlightenment” believing in centrality of
freedom.

 William Godwin is known as the founder of Modern Anarchist Theory and

later Pierre – Joseph is known as the first Self-Proclaimed Anarchist in the
19th century whereas Josiah Warren is widely regarded as the first
American anarchist .
Rise and Fall
 Even after Anarchism was proposed as a proper philosophy there
was no such action or practical implementation of this in the early
years .

 The initial rise of Anarchism started in the mid-19th Century through

Pierre – Joseph where his voice made sense to the general masses
as he called for mutualism in society and oppressed any ruler with
power.

 Although after the World War II in the 20th Century it started a major
rise of anarchism with the biggest example of anarchy rule in
Ukraine for a 3 year period.

 Since than Anarchism as a viable political system has failed .

Practical Viability
 Anarchism as all other political system comes with its pro’s and con’s
but overall its implementation in the present age is difficult and
complicated.

 With no government the first valid question that can be raised is that
how the laws and control for crimes will be carried out.

 The anarchists believes that laws do exists which are made by

different societies with mutual consultation but again which society
should be accepted and conflicts can easily arise between the
various societies.
Pro’s:

and you will be free from all corrupt rulers and neither you have to pay any
taxes or have to be questionable to the government.

Con’s:
