INTRODUCTION
 Porous concrete is a special type of advanced concrete, it is a
high porosity concrete used for outdoor flatwork that allows
water to pass through it.

 It is a low water/cement ratio, low slump mix consisting of

cement, narrowly graded coarse aggregate, little or no fine
aggregate, water and admixtures.
 The actual mix proportions for porous concrete varies
depending on the application, mechanical properties required
and materials used.

4
CONTD…
 They are used to increase workability, allow concrete to easily
move out of the mixer, and control the setting time so the mix
may be placed correctly.
 As the void content increases, the water drainage rate through the
concrete also increases and this option can be use later to increase
resin content in polymer impregnated concrete.
 If more strength is needed, a small amount of fine aggregate
could be added to the mix, but this will reduce the void content
and its permeability.
 Chemical admixtures are used to affect the water/cementitious
ratio, influence workability and setting times and enhance
mechanical properties and durability

LITERATURE REVIEW
Ibrahim H.A and Razak H.A (2016)

 The addition of palm oil clinker on properties of pervious concrete.

 The test results indicated that substitution with POC decreases the
strength of the material but porosity and permeability increases.

CONTD…
Yeih W et al. (2015)
 The engineering properties of pervious concrete made with air-
cooling electric arc furnace slag as aggregates (EAFS).

 Porous concrete prepared from EAFS aggregates have better

mechanical strength and water permeability than that made with
natural river gravels.

 It is found that EAFS based pervious concrete has a higher water

permeability and higher compressive strength than that made with
gravels.

 Properties of pervious concrete containing fly ash.

 Here the use of cement is partially replaced by fly ash in

pervious concrete.

 Various properties of pervious concrete samples including

density, porosity, compressive strength, water permeability and
drying shrinkage have been carefully measured.

 Higher porosity resulted higher water permeability but decrease

in compressive strength.

 Pervious concrete with titanium dioxide as a photo catalyst
compound for a greener urban road environment.

 This study investigate the photo catalytic effect of titanium

dioxide (TiO2) applied into pervious concrete pavement to remove
some of these pollutant from the air.

 That pervious concrete pavement can be installed for sustainable

application such as storm water management and air pollutant
removal.

 The use of no-fines concrete as a building material
strength durability properties of and corrosion protection
of embedded steel.

 Mechanical, durability-related properties and the

protection provided by no-fines concrete to embedded
steel against carbonation-induced corrosion have been
investigated on mixtures with compressive strength in
10
the range 7-30 Mpa.
Morgenroth J et al.(2013)
 The belowground effects of porous pavements-Soil
moisture and chemical properties
 The effect on pH was greater beneath porous pavements,
and also when a gravel base was included. Concentration
of soil Al, Fe, and Mg decreased, while Na increased
beneath pavements.

 Have studied the Design of permeable paving subject to
traffic.
 The permeable paving offers significant benefits over
conventional pavements in terms of sustainability and
environmental impact.

SUMMARY OF LITERATURE REVIEW
 An outline on various methods adopted for the preparation of
pervious concrete and there are where about with relation to
physicochemical-mechanical properties of the building
material
 Various methods are compared and the best method with
reference to the material processing, aggregate preparation,
mixing, etc is being estimated.
 An idea about to measure parameters are strength, porosity,
permeability and durability.
 The pervious concrete which have been generated carries low
compressive strength high abrasion values along with low
durability which is not suitable for roadway application
12
OBJECTIVES
 To determine the main properties and uses of traditional porous
concrete and its ecofriendly use in structural applications.

 To evaluate compressive strength, indirect tensile strength and

flexural strength

 To investigate permeability for cast slab specimens.

 To determine porosity of slabs integrated with resin to study the

flexural behavior and its resistance in structural applications.

 Comparison study of relationship between properties and different

factors
13
METHODOLOGY
 Literature study.

 Collection of materials from available sources.

 Testing of the materials and determination of material

properties.

 40 slabs are to be casted with 10 cm thickness, 50 cm

length and width, for each mix.

 Studying the structural behavior of polymer impregnated

porous concrete. 14
 Resin are used to fill the voids partially in porous
concrete to increase capability of sustained load, which
will help to reliability use of this concrete in structural
applications.
 Testing of porous concrete specimens are to be carried
out after curing for seven days, fourteen days and
twenty-eight days.
 Slabs are tested for compressive strength, indirect tensile
strength, permeabilty test and durability test .
