Purpose
• How to take action to prevent unsafe acts from
recurring
• How looking at Procedures, Orderliness
Standards, and Reactions of People to help
/prevent injuries
Summary of Unit 3
The STOP observation checklist
reminds you the categories to
observe for. It helps you become
“sensitized” to safety by focusing
on:

Preventing Unsafe Acts from Recurring
• Making Contact with someone Who is working

Some underlying causes of unsafe act
• Lack of knowledge or training
• Assuredness of “it can’t happen to me”
or “It won’t happen this time”
• Habit
• The unavailability of correct PPE
• A belief that the practice is acceptable
because no one has corrected it in the
past
• Attempts to get attention or become part
of one group
• An assertion of independence
• A sense of priorities that places comfort,
production, or quality above safety
• A moral problem reflecting conditions on
or off the job
6 steps when talking people who are working unsafely

• Step 1: Observe; then get the person’s attention


• Step 2: Make a positive comment on a safe behaviour
• Step 3: Discuss the consequences of the unsafe act
and a safer way to do the job.
• Step 4: Get commitment to work safely
• Step 5: Broaden the discussion to the job as a whole
• Step 6: Thank the employee

• Kerapain area merupakan awal dari upaya keselamatan
berikutnya yang Anda lakukan./ The neatness of your
area sets the tone for the rest of your safety efforts
• Area yang rapi merupakan area yang aman, bebas dari
bahaya. / An orderly area is a safe area, free of hazards
• Area yang rapi memungkinkan orang bekerja secara
lebih efisien daripada area kerja yang berantakan dan
tidak teratur / A neat area are lets people work more
efficiently than a cluttered, messy workplace
