WOMEN OF 19th CENTURY
 Women of 19th century in India can be said as the
weakest women of all over the globe. According to statics
women of India in past was said or considered to be a
marginalised group. A group that was lead down by the
man community and the society. She was never given
equality and respect as compared to man.
 Women at that time was always bounded by blind faith
rituals, taboos and customs.
 On that was a group that was always lead down.

 Though India is a home to many successful women. Prima
facie, India appears as a country which gives equal rights
and opportunities to women. However, statistically, the
reality is quite different.

 India is the “fourth most dangerous country in the world for

women and the worst country for women among the G20
countries” (via Thompson Reuters).

 Furthermore, as per the National Crime Records Bureau, in

India “a crime against a woman is committed every three
minutes, a woman is raped every 29 minutes, a dowry
death occurs every 77 minutes, and one case of cruelty
committed by either the husband or relative of the victim
occurs every 9 minutes”.
 Not to forget nearly 35 per-cent of the females in the
country are illiterate.

 After more than 6 decades of independence, India still

needs an overfall of it’s policy on gender equality. While
our policy makers should be prioritizing the task of making
India more progressive and women-friendly.

 What we hear is outrageously regressive statements and

views from our leaders. It’s as if the modern India is still
being ruled by the leaders teleported from the 18th
century.
 Women are an integral part of human society. But for a
woman, there couldn’t have any man. She is the mother of
mankind. Despite holding such an important and
unquestionable position, role of women has been defined
by men over millenia.

 Over Vedas tell us that women held an important place in

ancient culture. No ritual was ever complete without the
presence of a woman by her man’s side.

 Women at home and society in general, are a different

cup of tea. They are treated as a second class citizen.
 How did this ‘battle of sexes’ begin? How did the men win
the winning hand? I think that economics had a role to play
in the schemes of thing. When man took on the role of a
bread earner, and woman took the natural role of a
nurturer, these roles suited their intended role by the
Creator.

 Man was physically strong, while the man was superior to

that of the woman as without him there would be no food
at the table.

 Woman’s role was taken for granted. The physically feeble

woman was led to believe this lie for centuries.
