INDUSTRIAL VISIT REPORT

2ND YEAR BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING

ABSTRACT
Visited at :VI Microsystems
Industrial estate
Perungudi,Chennai.
Total strength : 37
Absentees :3
Incharge :Mrs.Jayashree
Visited departments:Assembling department
Testing department
ASSEMBLING DEPARTMENT
• PCB :
A printed circuit board mechanically supports and electrically connect electronic components or the electrical components using
conductive tracks, pads and other features etched from one or more sheet layers of copper laminated onto or between sheet layers of
a non-conductive substrate.
At assembling department we studied the assembly of components in PCB board.
Simplest PCB are single sided boards. It is single layered.
The copper traces can also be installed on both sides of board. It is double layered.
The copper connections cannot cross one another without the path of the electrical charge being compromised. It is multi
layered .
Components ar4e connected in the PCB by soldering. Each and every components are conneted in their respective positions that
already printed in the board. Some common PB components include

Battery : Provides the voltage to the circuit.

Resistors : control the electric current as it passes through them. They are colour coded to
determine their values.
LEDs : Lights up when current flows through it, and will only allow current to flow is one
direction.
Transistors: Amplifies charge.
Capacitors: These are components which can harbour electrical charge.
Inductors : Stores charge and stops and change in current.
Diode : Allows current to pass in one direction only.
Switches : Can either allow current or block by closing and opening .
TESTING DEPARTMENT
PCB test of a board will use capacitance and
resistance. A capacitance test will test for opens ans
shorts by rending a change on the net and then
pube each net to measure resistance as the current
flows through a conductor in ohms.
A good conductor has low resistance. At regular
temperature, the best conductor is silver. The
second best conductor is copper. The amount of
resistance depends on how long, how wide and how
tall the trace is.
Conclusion
The industrial visit to vi micro
systems helps learn a lot of things
which I had never learned from my
academices
I took this opportunity to thank all
the staff of vI micro system and SMK
