Bamboo Mat Corrugated Sheet

Bamboo ….WHY ?....

• The main raw material for the production of Bamboo Mat
Corrugated Sheet (BMCS) is bamboo, which is the fastest
growing plant & occurs naturally in the forests & is also
suitable for plantation even over degraded lands.

• For Manufacturing of BMCS, Bamboo is to be converted into

mats that are hand-woven. This provides opportunities for
rural and tribal people .

• Thus the product is both Environment Friendly and People

Friendly.
Properties
Water resistance:

•No delaminating / deformation and

retains substantial strength even after
immersion in boiling water for 72
hours which is prescribed for good
grade plywood as per IS-848.
Permeability
• No percolation of water observed
after storing water for over 24 hours.
• Considering the biological nature of
the material, a protective Water-
proof / UV coating is done on the
side which is exposed to the Sun,
Rain.
Fire Resistance

• Conforms to flammability test as per

IS:5509 Indian Standard
Specification for Fire Retardant
Plywood.
Thermal Conductivity

• BMCS has low thermal conductivity

compared to other roofing materials
(0.1928 k.cal/m-0c for BMCS and
0.3422 k.cal/m-0c for ACCS)
Bamboo is non-durable in its natural state. Durability can be
greatly increased by preservation with safe, environment-
friendly chemicals, such as boron. Several simple and cost-
effective treatment methods are available.
Prophylactic Treatment

 Bamboo/Bamboo Mats - Bamboo is easily

attacked by insects and fungi due to presence
of starch and sugar in abundance. Prophylactic
treatment of either bamboo or bamboo mats is
very essential to enhance their life during
storage.
Traditional or Non-Chemical Treatment
• Smoking: Smoking is carried out in chambers.
This produces toxic agents and heat which
destroy starch in bamboo thus making them
immune to insect attack
• White washing: Bamboo culms and mats are
often painted with slaked lime, which prolongs
their life by delaying/reducing moisture
absorption.
• Storage in Water: Freshly cut bamboo is stored
either in running water or in water pools for 3-4
weeks to leach out starch. This process
prevents bamboo from insect attack.
Characteristics
• BMCS roofing sheets confirms to the
requirements prescribed for asbestos cement
roofing sheets with enhanced characteristics like
toughness, resilience and ductility.

• Apart from this BMCS is environment friendly,

energy efficient and possesses good fire
resistance. The BMCS developed is first of its kind
in the country.
