Session 1: SEL in the classroom.

What the SEL does it mean?

● SEL stands for Social-Emotional Learning

● We already incorporate SEL during our weekly council sessions.

● There are other little “tricks” you can use to continue to incorporate
SEL into your daily teaching routine.

Take a moment to reflect on
YOUR teaching practice:

REFLECTION: What is ONE strategy you feel confident

to incorporate in the next 2 weeks?
Now you try:
CASEL Core 5 Tenets of SEL:

1. Agency and Identity

2. Emotional Regulation
What is one activity you already use that
3. Cognitive Reg
addresses one of the 5 tenets of SEL?
4. Public Spirit
5. Social skills and relationships

What is one activity you would like to add

to address another tenet of SEL?
*Hint: Yoga and
mindfulness
techniques are great
ways to help
incorporate SEL in
the classroom.
What questions or comments do you
have so far?
Session 2: Supporting student behavior
for classroom success!
Take a moment to reflect: Who is your most difficult student?
● Can you imagine a day where that student is quiet, on-task and non-disruptive?
Well, this day can actually become a REALITY.

● These students are frustrating, but there is ALWAYS a reason for their behavior
(as we know).

● Behaviors are driven by needs. We can address these needs for student success.

○ Here are some resources WE can utilize to support our students!

Take a moment to reflect on
YOUR teaching practice:

Reflection Question:

What tip can you incorporate into your teaching

practice to support your most difficult student?
Now you try: It is going to be a challenge, but choose one
resource and describe how you will use it in
your classroom within the next MONTH
below:
SELECT a folder in the shared Google Drive
Folder.

Take 5 minutes to explore all of the

resources that have been compiled in that
folder.

Take brief notes on what you see, what

surprises you, or what you would
use/adapt.
Can I clarify anything for you? Do you
have a thought or story to share?
Session 3: Leveraging the SBA for
success
What tools are available for YOUR students?
● IABs are a critical tool we can leverage to support our students growth.

○ Consider showing the students their IAB results on a spreadsheet

to increase their intrinsic motivation to succeed.

● The Digital Resource Library is full of PD for students. Our AP will get
access for us.
Take a moment to reflect on
YOUR teaching practice:

Reflection question:
Have you used an IAB yet? What was your experience
with it?
Now you try:

REFLECT:

1. Take 2 minutes to write a brief

SHARE:
description of your experience using
IABs. 2. When the timer goes off, turn to a person
near you and SHARE your reflections with a
partner.
Other information we learned:
● The LAUSD strike asked for a “moratorium” on charter schools. We went on a
march on behalf of charter schools to support laws to protect charters.

● We are doing similar work to other charter schools, and we are also doing
transformative instructional strategies at the same time!

● There are TONS of resources and notes in G. drive that are available for you!

Culminating Activity:
Research shows that meditation in the classroom has many benefits for
students AND teachers. Meditation and mindfulness strategies were
mentioned in multiple sessions I and our colleagues attended.

For this final, culminating activity we are going to practice a 5 minute

meditation designed to be used in the classroom.

When we are finished, we will reflect with the people around us.
Thank you for
attending!
