The working of touchscreen

What is touch screen display?

 A touch screen is a computer display
screen that is also an input device. The
screens are sensitive to pressure; a
user interacts with the computer by
touching pictures or words on
the screen. Resistive touch
screen panels are not affected by
outside elements such as dust or water.
Working of touch screen
Main components :

 Touch sensor
 Controller
 Drivers
Touch sensor
A touch screen sensor is a clear glass panel with
a touch responsive surfaces.
The sensors generally have an electrical current
or signal going through it and a touching screen
causes a voltage or signal changes.
Controller
 The controller is a small cards that connect
between the touch sensors and the device.
The controller determines what type of
interface you need on the device.
Drivers
 The driver is a software that allows the
touch screen and the computer to work
together. This like a software or
programs that installed in controller.
A phone that we use now is a Capacitive
touch screen. These screens are made
from multiple layers of glass.
 How it works?
The inner layer conducts electricity and so
does the outer layer, so effectively the
screen behaves like two electrical
conductors separated by an insulator—
in other words, a capacitor. When you
bring your finger up to the screen, you
alter the electrical field by a certain
amount that varies according to where
your hand is.
Capacitive screens can be touched in
more than one place at once. Unlike
most other types of touchscreen, they
don't work if you touch them with a
plastic stylus (because the plastic is an
insulator and stops your hand from
affecting the electric field).
Did you know?
 The first touch screen have been
invented by E.A. Johnson in 1965 at the
Royal Radar Establishment in Malvern,
UK.
 By 1971,PLATO IV was the first touch
screen computer to be used in a
classroom that allowed students to
touch the screen to answer questions.
