• Negatives
• Inversion (Interrogatives)
• Code (ellipsis)- to avoid repeating a phrase or verb: Paul has written to his
grandmother, and I suppose Robert may have written to is grandmother, too.
• Emphasis: You should have written to your grandmother to thank her for the
present. I DID write to her.

• Other uses:
• Question tags: You like football, don´t you?
• Short Answers to YES /NO questions
• To say it´s the same for you (or other people) with SO or NOR.
• An echo question to show interest: I´m going to Paris next week. Are you?
