Entertainment is any activity which provides a diversion or permits
people to amuse themselves in their leisure time, and may also provide
fun, enjoyment and laughter.

Film Industry & Bollywood

The film industry or motion picture industry, comprises the technological and
commercial institutions of filmmaking, i.e., film production companies, film
studios, cinematography, animation, film production, screenwriting, pre-
production, post production, film festivals, distribution and actors, film directors
and other film crew personnel.

Hindi cinema, often referred to as Bollywood, is the Indian Hindi-language film


industry, based in the city of Mumbai, India. Indian cinema is the world's
largest film industry in terms of film production, with an annual output of 1,986
feature films as of 2017, and Bollywood is its largest film producer, with 364
Hindi films produced annually as of 2017.
Current Trends & Major Problems in the
Film Industry in India
Current trends :
1. Practical effects over CGI
2. Increased social commentary in films
3. Smaller budget movies are debuted on online

Major problem :
Piracy. India, the biggest hub of piracy. Ranked 4 when it comes to illegal
downloads.
Prospects & Importance of Film Industry
in India
Prospects : Growth is expected to come from the expansion of multiplexes in
smaller cities, investments by foreign studios in domestic. Digitization is
providing scale and reducing piracy. Globalization of the Indian film industry.

Importance : Film industry is one of the important contributors to the economy


and plays a very important and critical role in economic development. The
sector has a total output of more than $25 billion (Rs. 183800 crores).
Dharma Productions & Dharma 2.0

Dharma Production Pvt. Ltd is an Indian production and distribution company


established by Yash Johar in 1979. It was taken over in 2004 after his death by
his son Karan Johar. Based in Mumbai it mainly produces and
distributes Hindi films. The company's first production was Raj
Khosla's Dostana (1980) starring Amitabh Bachchan, Shatrughan Sinha,
and Zeenat Aman. The film was the highest-grossing Bollywood film of the year.
Dharma 2.0 (an upcoming project) : Dharma 2.0, as the edgy name suggests,
is a young and zippy venture by Dharma Productions. With this move, the
country’s most prolific movie production house enters the world of ad film
production and the dynamic world of digital. The birth of Dharma 2.0 is in line,
the new venture will not only produce ad films for television, but will also
execute creative and clutter breaking solutions across digital space.
Findings
 Lakhs of people are getting employment from the film industry directly or
indirectly.

 Digitization has helped a lot the industry in getting revenue from new
sources.

 Piracy is a major or main problem of the film industry.

 People are losing lakhs of jobs due to piracy of movies.

 Foreign entertainment company such as Fox, Disney etc. are interested in


Indian film industry. They are investing crores of rupees in India.
