Project Statement of WorkS.O.W

 Narrative description.
 Sometimes a part of Project Charter, sometimes not.
 Products or services to be delivered by project.
 Internal projects, SOW by initiator or sponsor.
 External projects, SOW by customer, beneficiaries or
initiator etc.
 Also known as project scope statement.
 EX: “to establish the complete Deptt. of Dentistry into
the hospital, till the end of 30th june, 2016”.
Project Objectives …
Can be a part of Scope Statement and can be mentioned separately in Project
Charter.
Project Objectives should be SMART.
Discussion

 “We want to increase Literacy in

Pakistan”.

 Is it a SMART Goal / Objective.

 If not, Make it a SMART Goal.

 First step in you BIG ASSIGNMENT, develop SMART

project objectives.
Determining Project Deliverables
 Product or services.
 Given to customer, beneficiaries or stakeholders.
 Produced as part of the project.
 Report, document, assignment, procedure, authority etc.
 Time bound
 What is the intended outcome
 Focus should be more on outcomes than activities.
 If the project is to set up an IT lab in your LGU, the
deliverables might be (1) furniture (2) networking, (3) IT
Equipment and (4) a room that is arranged and put
together.
Assumptions

 “all other things remaining the same”

 Circumstances or events
 Need to be occur
 Outside control of project team
 Project successful.
 Opposites of Risks or constraints.
 Ex. If there is no war between Pakistan and India during
the whole project life cycle.
 Technical person is available when called.
Business Cases

 Important part of project feasibility.

 Whether or not the project is feasible for investment.
 Justification of project.
 Causes include
 1. Market Demand.
 2. Organizational Need.
 3. Customer Request.
 4. Technological Advancement.
 5. Legal Requirement.
Need Analysis of Project

 Identify Stakeholders.
 Prioritizing / Categorization.
 What needs they have in result of project activities.
 How you know the stakeholders really “NEED” for which
you are doing project.
Organizational Assets

 “Anything” that organization has acquired which can be

helpful for project completion.

 Standard Operating Procedures.

 Policies.
 Templates.
 Experience/Expertise in Project Domain.
 Portfolios.
 Technology
 Databases
 Competitive Advantage
Expert Judgment

 Keep it simple. “Judgment from Expert.”

 Opinion, knowledge, expertise, case studies, reports,
surveys, power, authority, technology etc.
 Relevant to project domain or skills.
 Subject matter experts, Consultants, Industry Group,
Professional Associations, Stakeholders.

 Discussion: During an expert judgment procedure for a

project for enhancing yield of dairy, can we consider an
ordinary farmer.
Cost Benefit Analysis

 Determine/estimate MAIN Cost included in Project.

 Determine/estimate MAIN benefits of the project.
 Determine / estimate Time of the benefits.
 Assign monetary value to the benefits.
 Compare Costs with Benefits.
