What was Child Labor Like?
• Children often taken from orphanages to
do dangerous jobs in factories
• Many children worked 12-14 hours a
day for very little money.
• Horrible working conditions
What happened to Children?
• Many became very ill from the dust they
breathed.
• Others had fingers, arms, or legs cut off
by machines.
• If they were late to work or got caught
talking they were beaten and /or fired
What does the law say today?
• 1938 was the first national law
against Child Labor
• 14 years old before they can have
a work permit.
• Cannot work during school hours
• teens cannot work more than 6
hours a day
