Replacing a GCUa
Function:
 The GCUa board performs the clock function.
 The GCUa board performs the following functions:
 Extracts timing signals from the external synchronization timing port and
from the synchronization line signals, processes the timing signals, and
provides the timing signals and the reference clock for the entire system
 Performs the fast pull-in and holdover functions on the system clock
 Generates RFN signals for the system (RNC Frame Number)
 Supports active/standby switchover. The standby GCUa board traces the
clock phase of the active GCUa board. This ensures the smooth output of
the clock phase in the case of active/standby switchover.

Replacing a GCUa
Redundancy :
The BSC6900 is configured with two GCUa boards in the MPS. The two boards
work in backup mode.
When two GCUa boards are configured to work in backup mode, one board is
active and the other is standby. The active board processes services. The
standby board synchronizes its data with the data on the active board in real
time.

Switchover Process
When the active and standby GCUa boards are switched over, the active
GCUa board becomes standby after being reset, and the other GCUa board
becomes active.

Replacing a DPU
Redundancy:
The DPUb/DPUd boards of the BSC6900 and the Digital Signal Processors (DSPs) in all
the DPUb/DPUd boards work in resource pool mode.

Board Resource Pool

All the BSC6900 DPUb/DPUd boards of the BSC6900 work as a resource pool. The
BSC6900 appropriately schedules and allocates resources for services between the
boards.
Services in a subrack are preferentially processed by DPU boards in the same subrack. If
the DPU boards in the subrack are unavailable, the services are allocated to the DPU
boards in another subrack.

DSP Resource Pool

All the DSPs in the BSC6900 DPUb/DPUd boards of the BSC6900 work as a resource
pool. The status of the DSPs is managed by the Main Processing Unit (MPU)
subsystem in the main control DPUb/DPUd board. The MPU subsystem properly
schedules and allocates resources for services among the DSPs.
The priorities of DSPs to be allocated in descending order are DSPs in the same board,
DSPs in the same subrack, and DSPs in different subracks.

Replacing a DPU
Impact:

Impact of Board Withdrawal

Taking out one DPU board will lower down system processing capacity.
All DSP provided by the board are not available.

Therefore we advise to inhibit the board during non busy hour before
replacing it (running INH BRD command). When replacement is
done do not forget to uninhibit the board (UIN BRD)

Replacing a DPU
Procedure:
1. Run the LST SUBRACK command to query the inhibited status of the board.
> If Logical inhibited board or Physical inhibited board does not include the DPUb/DPUd board to be replaced.
> Then, run the INH BRD command to physically inhibit the board.
NOTE:
Physically inhibiting the DPUb/DPUd board prevents new accesses to the board and reduces the impact of
replacing the board on the BSC6900 services.
2. Remove the DPUb/DPUd board to be replaced by referring to Removing a Board.
3. Insert the new board into the subrack by referring to Inserting a Board.
> The new board automatically loads program and configuration data, and the RUN LED blinks every alternate
0.125s.
4. Run the UIN BRD command to unblock the new board.
5. Run the DSP BRD command to query the status of the new board.
> Should be active Normal
7. Run the CMP BRDVER command to check whether the software version of the new board is consistent with the
board version matching table.
> If the board version is inconsistent with the board version matching table, run “SET LODCTRL: LODCTRL=LFB;”
and then run “RST BRD” to reset the board.
8. Check that DPU board is working properly. Also check DSP resource status (DSP DSP).
