Wanderer to Pilgrim Devotional From Wanderer to Pilgrim We read in Psalm 107:1-8,
1 Give thanks to the LORD, for He is
good; His love endures forever. 2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say this – those He redeemed from the hand of the foe, From Wanderer to Pilgrim
3 those He gathered from the lands,
from east and west, from north and south. 4 They wandered in the wilderness in a desolate way. They found no city to dwell in. From Wanderer to Pilgrim
5 Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted
in them. 6 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and He delivered them out of their distresses. From Wanderer to Pilgrim
7 And He led them forth by the right
way, that they might go to a city for habitation. 8 Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men! From Wanderer to Pilgrim One phrase is repeated four times in Psalm 107:
"Oh, that men would give thanks to
the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men!" (verse 8) From Wanderer to Pilgrim The psalmist gives us five vivid illustrations of what God has done for us and why we should praise His name. He talks about wanderers, prisoners, hospital patients, mariners and people seeking to build the city and sow the seed. From Wanderer to Pilgrim About wanderers the psalmist writes, "They wandered in the wilderness in a desolate way. They found no city to dwell in. Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them. Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and He delivered them out of their distresses. From Wanderer to Pilgrim “And He led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city for habitation" (verses 4-7). God rescued them. Then there's that refrain. "Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men!" God has done this for you, so thank Him. From Wanderer to Pilgrim The Hebrews writer tells us how Abraham recognized that this world was not his home, for he was a sojourner looking for a better place. Hebrews 11:9-10 says, “By faith he became a sojourner in the land of promise, as in a land not his own, dwelling in tents, with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: for he looked for the city which has the foundations, whose builder and maker is From Wanderer to Pilgrim
Once we are in Christ our citizenship is
one of Heaven. Paul wrote in Ephesians 2:19-22, “So then you are no more strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow-citizens with the saints, and of the household of God, being built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, From Wanderer to Pilgrim
“...Christ Jesus Himself being the
chief corner stone; in whom each several building, fitly framed together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord; in Whom you also are built together for a habitation of God in the Spirit.” I was a wanderer before the Lord saved me – lonely, solitary, hungry, thirsty, aimless and wondering where to go next. Then someone told me about Jesus Christ – that He died on the cross for my sins, was buried, rose again on the third day and today is a living Savior for all who will call upon Him. From Wanderer to Pilgrim So I cried unto the Lord in my trouble, and He delivered me out of my distresses. Now I'm delivered and guided and part of His family, no longer lonely, no longer hungry and thirsty, for Christ is the Bread of Life; He is the Living Water. I am a pilgrim on my way to a heavenly home.
