DESIGN AND ANALYSIS OF
HELICAL SPRINGS IN TWO
WHEELER SUSPENSION
SYSTEM
OBJECTIVE
When a vehicle is travelling on a level road, the spring is
compressed quickly when the wheel strikes the bump at the time
reducing load and vibrations.
Cost reduction.
Reduce the weight and safe drive.
ABSTRACT
 The aim of our project is to reduce the vibration in
vechile by redesigning the suspension system with
new materials.
 The purpose of this project is to reduce service cost,
material cost and increase the efficiency.

SPRING DETAILS
 (modulus of rigidity) G = 7860N/mm2
 Mean diameter of a coil, D=43.7mm
 Diameter of wire, d = 6.3mm
 Total no of coils, n1= 17
 Height, h = 210mm
 Outer diameter of spring coil, D0 = D +d =50mm
 No of active turns, n= 16
MILD STEEL
 Mild steel contains approximately 0.05–
0.25% carbon making it malleable and ductile. Mild
steel has a relatively low tensile strength
STAINLESS STEEL
 With highest percentage contents of iron, chromium,
and nickel, with a minimum of
10.5% chromium content by mass and a maximum of
1.2% carbon by mass.
SPRING STEEL
 Carbon, C 0.50 - 0.60 Manganese, Mn 0.70
1.10 Silicon, Si 1.5 2.0 Nickel, Ni EN45
CHORIMIUM VANADIUM STEEL
 Chrome vanadium contains a high amount of
chromium, between 0.80 and 1.10 percent, and the
vanadium content is approximately 0.18 percent, along
with 0.70 to 0.90 percent of manganese. Other
substances include 0.50 percent carbon, 0.30 percent
silicon, and trace amounts of other metals.
TESTING RESULT
SHOCK ABSORBER OTHER
APPLICATION
 Automotive robotics
 Foundry–conveyor line
 Rolling Door
 Air cylinder
 Packaging machinery
 Overhead crane
ADVANTAGES
 To absorb impact load caused by
 Irregularities of road surface.
 To provide safety for passenger & driver.
 To prevent rebounding effect.
CONCLUSION
 Noted From the analysis results we can conclude that
the generally using alloy spring steel is preferable
compared to chromium vanadium steel. By comparing
the results in the table we could analyse that our
modified spring has reduced in weight and it is safe.
