units.
• Around 112.5 million units of donated blood are collected globally every year, however, many patients
requiring transfusion do not have timely access to safe blood and blood products.

• Every 2 seconds, a person in India requires blood.

• India needs 4 crore units of blood every year but only 40 lakh units are available

• At present India has 2,903 blood banks spread all across the country, of which 1,043 are public and 1,860
private, including those run by charitable trusts

• There is a shortage of 1,00,000 units of blood in the National Capital Region (NCR) itself. Several deaths can
be caused due to severe blood loss in case there is a shortage of blood, plasma, or platelets.

Court Ruling. Still we have illegal ‘red markets’ are operational.

• The direct blood transfusion in India has caused a nation wide spread of diseases like HIV and Hepatitis C.

OUR SOLUTION (IDEA)

“To connect the Licensed Blood Banks to

the remote areas of India virtually, and
administer real time blood donations and
requirements through a Web-App called
Smart Blood Bank.”
OUR OBJECTIVES
To connect areas of India which do not have accessibility to the basic facilities like Blood Bank

To create a virtual platform which brings the voluntary blood donors and the hospitals where
blood is needed, in touch with each other.

To create and maintain a real-time database of the blood donors, which can be used to notify
them in times of urgent blood requirement, of a particular type.

To bust the myths, taboos and misconceptions that people have related to Blood Donation
and make it a comfortable, household issue.

 Ensuring safe and legal practices for blood donation in remote areas.

 Reducing deaths due to blood loss and blood unit deficits in India.

 Promoting more Donations and Donor registrations through incentives like

free blood check ups and health predictions.

 Promoting healthy lifestyle and safe practices.

FUTURE PROSPECTS FOR SMART BLOOD BANK

 We aim to further converge the list of possible donors by a geographical parameter based on the location of
hospitals, using GPS tracking.

 With the help of Data Analysis, we have planned to include a health prediction feature in our web-app for the
Blood donors which will promote healthy lifestyle.

 In areas with lack of awareness, our app can be a gateway to educate people about having a healthy
approach to life, which will be an added advantage.

 Although Smart Blood Bank is a humanitarian initiative, it can be easily commercialized.

 Smart Blood bank is an idea which won’t ever go out of trend, simply because as long as we live, we need
blood and it can not be synthesize in labs!
