FDC Piping
Unit Plot Plan
 Unit plot plan is prepared for each process unit. Basic Engg Contractor /
Licensor provides guide line document based on which the unit plot plan
is developed.

 For Offsites & Utilities overall site plan is developed by the Department
intergrating with the overall site plan.

4
FDC Piping
Piping Materials
 Material take-off preliminary is issued for bulk loading to PMMS
 Updating & control of material quantities with design by periodic
transfer\download of 3D models
 Monitoring of material requisitions.
 Data sheets for all special items are prepared
 Automatic transfer \control of material between construction, stores and
Engineering is achieved
 Project Stock Code Index generated Piping Material Class wise is issued as a
project specification.
 Changes in piping specifications are controlled automatically between material
group and piping design group
 Proper control of material by means of revisions are taken care in different systems
such as PDS, Pipeworks, PTS, PMMS etc.
 Transmit a summary of all Instruments (Instrument MTO) to Instrument Group
for requisitioning.
5
FDC Piping
Material Control
 Initial material take off from :
– Completed preliminary line routings in the CAD model
– Manual take off from P&IDs
 Total forecast material requirements including working surplus and
contingency form the basis of the Bulk Material Requisitions.
 Frequency & timing of material extractions from CAD model &
manual MTO ensure that bulk material status is concurrent with
design.
 Field material control is possible as the data within the piping material
control programme is downloaded to Procurement Tracking System.
 Material requisitions issued to procurement for enquiry/ purchase.
 MR quantities issued for purchase (initial & at each revision) are
downloaded to Procurement Tracking System.

6
FDC Piping
Piping & Equipment Modelling
 FDC has a capacity of 40 PDS stations and all modelling activities are
done from here.
 All civil pipe supports are modelled by piping for civil group to do
their detailed design
 Reports on various activities like insulation painting etc are created
and transferred to the concerned groups for their detailing
 Instrumentation XYZ locations are transferred in the form of reports as
well as drawings to instrumentation for their detailing
 Nozzle orientation sketches are created and given to Equipment group
 Sleeper schedule is a deliverable issued to civil and construction from
Piping
 Procedure for doing stress analysis with direct transfer of neutral files
from PDS to Caesor is being set up.
 Material control thru model transfer
7
FDC Piping
Piping Layout Preparation
 Piping arrangement drawings produced in two stages:

Planning drawing (study sketches / 2D CAD )

 To solve major design problems, transmit information & co-

ordinate activities of the different design departments.
 Preliminary piping arrangement for inter-discipline review &
comment.
 The same will be used as the conceptual layout for 3D
modelling
 For 2" and larger lines with dimensions and labelling if needed
by construction

8
FDC Piping
Piping Layout Preparation
 GA Using 3D CAD Model
– G.A. drawings are extracted from 3D CAD model if required by
construction
– OR model is downloaded to DRV sessions at construction site.
 Non-CAD GAs
– Additional Pipe support GA’s issued for construction to reflect pipe
support requirements only (upon construction demand)
 Piping stringing Drawings
– For pipe racks and sleeper runs stringing drawings are prepared for
ease of construction

9
FDC Piping
Pipe Stress Analysis
 To ensure that piping is routed and supported so that no damage occurs to
either the pipe or associated equipment due to the effects of thermal
expansion or contraction, or loads resulting from weight, pressure, wind
earthquake, pulsation, shock, foundation settlement, etc.
 Ensuring compliance to all Code, Client and Inspection Authority
requirements pertaining to Piping Stress Analysis.
 Establishing all operating functions including start-up, shutdown, steam-
out, various combinations of equipment working and idle, bypasses in
and out of use, de-coking, etc., for lines to be analyzed.
 Stress Critical Line List Review.
 Nozzle loads calculations and transfer of the same to Equipment group
for their review/action
 Special support sketches, if any, are made and transferred to civil for
their further action
10
FDC Piping
Pipe Stress Analysis
 Anchor loads on structures and/or foundations are transferred to civil
 Review of vendor drawings for equipment nozzle loading.

11
FDC Piping
Piping Isometrics
 Isometrics using 3D CAD Model
– Isometrics, the final deliverable of Piping group are extracted from 3D CAD
model
– Material is downloaded from model.
– Engineering Isometrics to be downloaded for piping spool drawings and
erection isometrics are prepared.
 Non-CAD Isometrics
– Manually prepared on Isometric Sheet viz steam tracing
– Material to be manually entered.

12
