Concept of Tourism
 The Concept of Tourism has been derived from the
Latin word “TOMOS” and Hebrew word “TORAH”.

 Tourism in reality is not an industry but an activity It


is defined as an activity that takes place when people
move to some other places for leisure or for business
and stay at least for 24 hours.
Forms of Tourism
 Domestic Tourism:
Domestic tourism is tourism involving residents of one country
traveling only within that country.

 Inbound Tourism:
Incoming tourism is also known as ‘Inbound tourism’ .
Incoming tourism means travelers arriving in different
countries from their own.

 Outbound Tourism:
Outbound tourism refers to residents to travel outside their
home country
GOA

Goa is Famous for its pristine beaches, infact 90% of all the tourism
in Goa happens only for its beautiful beaches in Coastal Areas. Goa
has two main tourist seasons: winter and summer.
MYSORE

 One of the most visited


monuments in India,
the Ambavilas Palace (also
known as Mysore Palace) is the
center of the Dasara festival.

 In the Southern region, the


festival gain importance in the
15th century, during the reign of
Vijayanagar rulers.

 The ruling dynasty of Mysore,


the Wodeyars continued this
celebration with even more
excitement, under the rule of
Raja Wodeyar in 1610 at
Srirangapatanam.
BRINDAVAN GARDEN

 Brindavan Gardens Spread in


an area of 150 acres of land
Placed below the Krishna raja
sagar Dam on River Kaveri.

 Brindavan Gardens was


taken over in 1927 by the
Department of Horticulture
when it was called
Krishnarajendra Terrace
Garden.

 The garden spreads out in 3


terraces, giving it a horseshoe
shape.
JAMMU & KASHMIR

 Jammu and Kashmir is the


northern most state of India
located in Himalayan Mountains

 Tourism in the Kashmir valley


has rebounded in recent years
and in 2009, the state became
one of the top tourist
destinations of India.

 Shanti Stupa is a white-dome


structure dedicated to
Buddhism. The architecture and
the beauty of this place are
unexplainable.
KANYAKUMARI

Kanyakumari is a
beautiful town located at
the Southernmost tip of
India.

 Kanyakumari is one of
the few towns in India
where one can hear
different languages of
India spoken on the
street.
VATTAKOTTAI FORT

Vattakottai fort ,which


translated to the ‘Circular
Fort’ is a seaside fort near
Kanyakumari.

The fort is largely made of


granite blocks and today , a
part of the fort even extends
into the sea.

The fort is now a protected


side under the Indian
Archaeological Department.
RISHIKESH
 Rishikesh is a city in India’s northern state of Uttarakhand,
in the Himalayan foothills beside the Ganges River.

 The river is considered holy, and the city is renowned as a


center for studying yoga and meditation.

 Temples and ashrams (centers for spiritual studies) line the


eastern bank around Swarg Ashram, a traffic-free, alcohol-
free and vegetarian enclave upstream from Rishikesh town.

KERALA
 Kerala, situated on the
lush and tropical
Malabar Coast, is one
of the most popular
tourist destinations in
India.

 Named as one of the


“Ten paradises of the
world” and “50 places
of a lifetime” by the
National Geographic
Traveler magazine.

 Kerala is especially
known for its
ecotourism initiatives,
Beautiful Backwaters
and Alternative
healing massages.
AGRA
 The Taj Mahal is widely
considered one of the beautiful
building in the world.

 It was constructed by the


Mughal King, Shah Jahan in
1632. It took almost 2 decades
of time to construct.

 Agra fort was built by Rajput


kings before Mughal dynasty.

 It is one of the UNESCO world


heritage site. It is also
described as walled city
TIGER HILL

 Tiger Hill is located in


Darjeeling in the state of
west Bengal.

 Tiger Hill was given its


name because of about
527 years ago tigers
roamed free in that place.

 Tiger hill height is almost


2590m and it is 11 km
from Darjeeling.

 Sunrise from Tiger Hill is


one of most popular
tourist attraction
HAPPY VALLEY TEA ESTATE

 Happy Valley Tea Estate


is a tea garden in
Darjeeling district.

 It was established in
1854. It is Darjeeling's
second oldest tea estate.

 It almost spread over


177 hectares and
situated at height 2,100
meters above sea level.

 It employs almost 1500


people. It is one of the
highest tea factories in
the world
