The Story of Creation
In the beginning, when God created
the heavens and the earth 2and the
earth was without form or shape,
with darkness over the abyss and a
mighty wind sweeping over the
waters. 3Then God said: Let there be
light, and there was light. 4God saw
that the light was good.
God then separated the
light from the darkness.
5God called the light

“day,” and the darkness

he called “night.”
Evening came, and
morning followed.
God created the heavens and
the earth and everything on it –
light, water, land, sea, air,
plants, animals and humans.
(Genesis 1:1-27)
God said: “Have dominion
over the fish of the sea, the
birds of the air, and all the
living things that crawl on
the earth.” (Genesis 1:28)

• This principle is the most basic
and in fact encompasses all the
other principles. Humans have
to understand nature and have
to abide by the rules nature
dictates....

You have made the moon to mark the seasons; the sun knows its time for setting.
You make darkness, and it is night, when all the animals of the forest come creeping
out. The young lions roar for their prey, seeking their food from God. (Psalm 104:14-21)
• God also said:
“See, I give you
every seed-bearing
plant on all the
earth and every
tree that has seed-
bearing fruit on it
to be your food.”
(Genesis 1:29-30)

IMPORTANCE OF WATER CYCLE

•The water bodies are

the lifeblood of the
earth.
•Pollute it, clog it, it dies.
Its death is also ours.

How much do we
have,
and how much do
we use?
Using our finite earth
• According to the Global Footprint
Network, humanity uses the equivalent
of 1.5 planets to provide the resources
we use and absorb our waste.
• Moderate UN scenarios suggest that if
current population and consumption
trends continue, by the 2030s, we will
need the equivalent of two Earths to
support us.
- how shared environmental
resources are overused and
eventually depleted; and the
rehabilitation of said
resources is practically
ignored by those who directly
used them.
Global ecological
overshoot
- effects of using
more resources than
the Earth can provide
1. Diminishing forest cover
2. Collapsing fisheries
Increasing greenhouse gases

TOWARD A RESILIENT
FUTURE
• It is only the human race that destroys
its own habitat!
• But if humans can change the planet so
profoundly, then it’s also in our power
to put things right. That will require new
ways of thinking, smarter methods of
producing, wiser consumption and new
systems of finance and governance.
TOWARD A RESILIENT
FUTURE
• What possible solutions can
EACH offer–to meet the needs of
current and future generations.
Jeremiah 29:10-11
• For this is what the LORD says:
“When Babylon’s seventy years are
complete, I will attend to you and
confirm My promise to restore you
to this place. For I know the plans I
have for you, declares the LORD,
plans to prosper you and not to
harm you, to give you a future and a
hope.
