Two Methods in adding Polynomials

• Horizontal Method
• Vertical Method
By using Horizontal method , rewrite
the like term together then combine
the like term.
Example:
1. 2x +y+x

= 2x+x+y
=3x+y is the final answer

3x +x+2y+y
= 4x+3y is the final answer
1. (3x+y) + (x+z)
= 3x+y
x+ z
4x+y+z is the final answer

By using Vertical method, rewrite the

like terms in column then add the like
terms.
Example:

= 4x+ y+z is the final answer
